My story

Looking for a co-pilot who plays it cool, takes his time, and knows how to make an entrance? Maverick is your guy. This handsome wingman has all the makings of a Top Dog: calm, observant, independent, and underneath that cool exterior, a heart that's waiting to connect. Maverick may not be the life of the party right away, but give him time and space, and you'll see those low tail wags and soft glances turn into curiosity and trust. He’s easy to leash, walks like a dream, and handles new situations with quiet confidence. He’s not the type to chase every ball or beg for snacks, he’d rather do a perimeter check and assess the yard before coming in for contact. Maverick has met other dogs with mild interest, sometimes unsure, but never out of line. With the right dog, he might enjoy a steady companion, but he’d also be happy flying solo with a human who understands that not every dog wants instant affection. He’s the kind of dog that builds trust slowly, steady, measured, and loyal when you’ve earned his wings. Ideal home: A calm environment, someone patient and dog-savvy who can read body language, and a commitment to going slow and letting Maverick come to you. Once he does, you'll have a loyal co-pilot for life. Come meet Maverick at ACCT Philly, open daily from 10 am to 6 pm VIDEO Maverick plays w his tennis ball https://youtube.com/shorts/iDUgM8DtRuE?feature=shared Maverick & Ultra Man fence meet https://youtube.com/shorts/r2rdQuit2Xc?feature=shared BEHAVIOR 08/07/2025 volunteer notes: Loved playing with his tennis balls and sniffing around. Slow to warm up to me but after getting comfy loved pets and butt scratches. Very mellow dog with good through fence meet. Easy to handle and take in and out of kennel (could be gold with a go slower approach) 08/07/2025 staff notes, playgroup: good greetings, steerable with water, social, friendly, began mounting, playful 08/06/2025 staff notes: Kennel Presentation: Maverick was sitting on his bed with a bone in his mouth. he looked up with soft eyes as i opened the kennel door. he kept himself still as i leashed him easily. once secured he walked right out. Leash Skills: Easy to walk on leash, pulls minimally to moderate Sociability: Outside Maverick was aloof and pretty avoidant of me. We went for a walk around the back before entering the yard. He sniffed around with a low tail and would come up to sniff me in increments. i offered him a treat which he declined and let him sniff my hand before touching the top of his head. he slightly flinched but tolerated all other handling from me. he did his own thing for the most part, sniffing around and walking the edge of the yard. I called him over to me to which he started giving me low wags and came up to sniff me. Play: no interest Dog Interaction: Maverick had a loose body and high tail wag as the other dog engaged in play. he was a bit confused with zoomies but curiously engaged with the dog further Return to Kennel: Maverick walked right into his kennel without issue Color Level: blue Recommendations and considerations: go slow with handling, let him sniff you first and focus on body language 08/05/2025 staff notes: Was able to get checked in, did some head whips with mouth closed, and otherwise was told he was tense and tolerant. Took food initially And then stopped eating. Met a dog thru the fence and face to face. When the other dog was approaching on leash, labrick had middle tail, not wagging and did two barks and a small lunge forward. He then sniffed with head low tense body thru the fence. Meeting face to face initially He was ignoring the other dog, then sniffed the rear. Tense body. Went face to face, tense body. Uneventful. 08/03/2025 staff notes: Laying on the bed chewing a Nylabone, looked at me with ears to the side, tense body, hard eyes and closed mouth. Tossed in treats and he ate them. Easy to Leash. Aloof outside, sniffed the whole time and peed for a long time 3 times and did 2 big poops. When I touched his back with the leash he flinched once and then ignored the pets, I pet with my hand then and he was unfazed. Ears back, sniffing, tail Down and still, tense body. Met Maroon 5 thru the fence, tail High and stiff, head low, mouth closed, walked away. When passing dog in the kennels he barked and did a small Lunge forward with hackles raised. Easy to return to kennel, used a treat scatter to remove the leash, tail Low wagging loosely when I took the leash off. MEDICAL 08/02/2025 staff notes: was not able to check in due to behavior . Patient has been scheduled for medicine - Gabapentin/Trazadone . will attempt to perform inital exam and Vaccines after medication has had time to take effects . When attempting to remove from kennel patient was very defensive . P was not growling or barking , Head was low , side eye/whale eye . When attempting to leash patient was evasive, Patient became more aggressive when attempting to lasso . once i was able to place it , P became fractious and was thrashing , leash bitting , growling , and for the safety of P and myself I discontinued and removed the leash .
