My story

Meet a dog as sweet as candy; it's Skittle! She has been adored by all staff and volunteers that have crossed her path. She'd love to steal your heart next! Videos: Skittle on her day trip!: https://youtube.com/shorts/WCDo1gj-_9s?feature=share Playgroup 8/5: Sweetly Girl, Parsnip, Fasa, Valkor, Ahsoka, Skittle https://youtu.be/2mXjQ3K-eMU Playgroup 8/5: Sweetly Girl, Parsnip, Fasa, Valkor, Ahsoka, Skittle (2) https://youtu.be/V2xN9nHS2-4 Behavior Notes: per day trip 8/9: On August 9, 2025, we had a lovely day trip with a sweet pup named Skittle! This tiny girl is absolutely adorable! She seemed to be housebroken, as she immediately took care of her business outside. Indoors, she chose to snuggle and take a naps when she wasn’t trying to solicit treats. Skittle is very treat-motivated and knows “sit.” She loved having a nice pup cup on a warm day! She was offered a few toys to play with, and it seemed like the tennis ball was her favorite. She could be a bit shy when she heard new noises, but she quickly went back to what she was doing when she realized that the noises weren’t trying to hurt her. If you’re considering adopting Skittle, you’ll be getting a great pup from what we’ve seen in the short time that we had her! Per staff 8/7: Kennel Presentation: Standing at the front quiet, loose body. Takes treats gently. Leash Skills: Pulls moderately. Sociability: Highly social to the handlers, sits on your feet, ears back and soft squinty eyes when being pet. Offers to sit for a treat Play: Did not do Dog Interaction: Saw dogs at a distance, oriented towards them with soft body language Return to Kennel: Balked going back in, then began to bark and snarl at the dog next to her. Needed treats to go back in. per staff 8/4: Took Skittle for a walk to give staff a chance to spot clean her crate. Found her energetic, exciteable, handler-oriented and sociable. Easy to leash, moderate puller (puppy mannerisms, doesn’t seem like she’s fully used to being on leash). Became overaroused when barked at by other crates dogs, and replied in kind, but was able to be distracted/redirected with chatter and some leash pressure. In the volunteer office, explored excitedly, sidled up and leaned in for pets, and sat nicely for treats. Outside, had a face meet with Geico and fence meets with the welcome center dogs. She showed none of the overarousal I saw toward the crated dogs, sniffing with slightly lowered posture at the WC dogs and ignoring/walking away when they barked, and exchanging face-face greetings with Geico with alert, upright posture and mid wags - eventually opening up into excited, dance-y jitters while sniffing that may have expanded into play/zoomies if given the chance. Despite some straining/attempting to back out of the leash, made our way back inside without issue and easily replaced in her crate with a pb ice cream cup to coax her. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Confirmed placement is considered a confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open-intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Skittle, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
