My story

Socialization: Tank is great with new people. He loves being pet by any hands nearby! He is great with men, women, and children of all ages, but has a preference for anyone who will throw a ball for a game of fetch with him. He loves cuddles and will jump into your lap. He is neutral toward other dogs- he will exchange a sniff then refocuses to humans or toys. We have not witnessed him around cats but his previous owner said he is indifferent toward them. Training: Tank knows how to sit, lay down, and shake (and possibly more!). He was originally trained to hunt but failed due to being gun shy. He will hold a point on a ball while playing fetch. He is well behaved in the house and crate trained. He does well being left outside of the crate from what we have observed, but his previous owner says he can be naughty and get into trash at times. He is housetrained but may mark when other male dogs are present. He can be a bit overly obsessive with tennis balls, but will settle down if you are able to hide the ball from him once play time is over. Crate trained: Tank is a little reluctant to get into his crate, but happily enters if bribed with a treat. He settles in well but is very excited to be let out. He is fine in the crate for up to 6 hours, but his preference is being left out to roam. He is trustworthy outside of the crate as long as trash, food items, etc are secured. Leash trained: We are still working on leash training with Tank. His previous owner used a head collar and we have been using an Easy Walk harness with him. He has a tendency to pull and weave side to side. He has somewhat of a prey drive toward squirrels but can be redirected to continue walking. He is very neutral toward other dogs on leash- he does not bark but may exchange sniffs. Activity level/requirements: Tank needs daily exercise in the form of daily walks and playing fetch. He can walk between 1-5 miles comfortably (weather dependent) and will fetch all day long if you allow him. He also loves swimming and retrieving in water. He would be happy with 1-2 walks daily and 2 fetching sessions. And he loves a game of hide and seek with balls! He settles down very well in the house given he receives appropriate exercise and enrichment activities. Fence requirements: Tank does well without a fenced in yard, if adequate leash walks are provided. Tank has very good recall as long as a toy or ball is present. He previously lived in a house with a 3.5 ft fence and did not attempt to jump it.  Personality: Tank is very cuddly and sweet. He is very velcro and wants to be next to or on top of his people at all times. He enjoys playing with toys and loves carrying them around in his mouth. He is eager to please, adaptable, and confident. He can be fearful of thunderstorms at times, but just seeks out his people and extra cuddles. Health history: UTD on vaccinations, is neutered, microchipped, & on monthly heartworm preventative. His most recent vet visit showed he is a very healthy and happy boy! They did not see any signs of aging. He previously tested positive for lyme disease but fully recovered. Foster comments: Tank would do well in a home where he is given adequate attention, affection, walks, and fetch/playtime! He is a very happy and sweet boy. He could live with other female dogs but other male dogs may be problematic due to marking behaviors. He would do well as an only dog. He would be happiest in a home where he is welcome on beds and furniture. Foster Location: Huntsville, AL Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $75.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (“Health Certificate”).  Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##940704##
