Socialization/training: Jenny loves all people and gets along well with other dogs. She loves trotting around the yard and barking at lizards. She has very little formal training. She’s working on house training and doing well, but not yet to the point where she should be left alone without attention. If she’s settled and snoozing inside, you can leave her be, but otherwise we try to keep her leashed and take her outside often. She seems to get that it’s preferred to go to the bathroom outside, but we’re not confident she believes it is not an option to go inside if that’s convenient. She will also definitely surf for food - and it’ll take more than a firm ‘no’ to convince her that is off limits (hence, the leash in the house). Crate trained: Jenny sleeps in her crate at night, and is crated any time we are not home or attending to her. She enjoys a treat for going into her kennel and goes in readily with that enticement. Leash trained: Jenny walks pretty well on a leash - she’s likely not had any formal leash training, but she’s pretty mellow overall and not inclined to pull or lunge. Activity Level: Jenny seems to be ‘aging in reverse’ since coming to our house - she is still very mellow and does a great job settling on her [well-loved, memory foam!] bed in the office during the day or the evening. She does enjoy trotting and maybe even breaking into a little run across the yard for a tossed ball or if a barn cat catches her eye. She’ll occasionally try to play with the other dogs in the house, but is mostly pretty chill. Fence: Jenny enjoys her fenced yard, but is mellow enough that she’d probably be just fine without. Behavior: Jenny prefers not to be entirely by herself, but she’s open to dog or people as her companion. She has started exploring sitting on couches, but mostly opts for a bed of the floor nearby where people spend most of their time. She will chew inappropriately (fabrics and power cords are favorites) if left unattended with good opportunity, and she is inclined to dig in the yard. Medical History: Jenny is current on vaccinations and microchipped. She tested heartworm negative & is on heartworm/flea/tick preventatives. She was spayed on July 28th and had multiple mammary masses removed at that time. She did sustain an injury to her left forelimb shortly after arriving at her foster home and will likely have a scar - her stitches are removed and overall, has healed very well. PATHOLOGY IS PENDING on the masses; pathology outcome may influence home placement and final determination of availability for adoption, and no final move dates will be coordinated until pathology results are back. Foster Comments: Jenny is so incredibly sweet, and is a wonderful companion. She seems to have had a bit of a hard life up until recently, and she was quick to love the comforts of home - she loves air conditioning, memory foam beds, treats, ear scratches, and honestly, the opportunity to spend a lot of time inside! She has been very quick to acclimate to her new home and new people - even when she was being transported (likely her first car rides and exposure outside her original conditions), she wanted to greet and befriend everyone at every gas station stop. She does sometimes seem a little older than her age (6) but has become considerably peppier and spryer as she’s been with us, so maybe she’ll continue to age backward toward her actual age again. She has no known physical limitations, but we believe she’d do better in a home with minimal stars (think runs of 5 or less) - she can be a bit clumsy at times, and we’ve never attempted to take her up our (long, steep, wood) stairs as we’re fairly confident that she cannot easily come down them. Jenny could do well in almost any family - as long as they’re willing to keep supporting her in learning how to be a house dog! After living outside and producing puppies for most her life, she needs some guidance on house life - what can and can’t be chewed - and yard life - namely, reminders not to dig and someone to pick up the yard. Jenny has not been directly cat-tested, but loses interest in our barn cats across the fence pretty quickly. Foster Location: Efland, NC Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $75.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##2446029##
