My story

Socialization: Sweet Blackie is shy when she first meets someone but quickly adjusts once she gets some attention. She is good with men and women. We do not have kids in the home. She gets along with all dogs she is starting to imitate play now that she is settled in. She has 4 foster siblings. I have not had the opportunity to cat test her but will if the potential adopter needs her to be safe around cats Training: Blackie is so smart and learns quickly. She knows sit, touch and almost a down. She does better with her off, a no jumping command than the resident dogs. She is only a year old so occ he has stolen a few items that were not hers. Usually paper left on the floor, no shoes or other items. Crate trained: Yes she has slept through the night in her crate since night 1. She would rather sleep on the bed but does well on her crate. She makes the perfect teddy bear. She does not bark or whine to get out. I just hear her tail tapping in the morning and I know she wants to start her day. Leash trained: This is a work in progress. She does not pull. She is learning to walk in a straight line. She is a little fearful on walks so I do not over correct her wandering and sniffing. I try to keep the walks fun. We walk about half a mile a day so far. She alerts to other dogs and is cautious but no reactivity Activity level/requirements: This girl is so relaxed. She plays and chews on her toys. Currently she does not need much exercise. She follows me everywhere and really just wants to be your companion and snuggle. Fence requirements: Fence preferred as she is still nervous on walks and has not gone potty on a walk yet. She has not challenged our fence but ours is 5 ft or higher . Personality:  She is the sweetest easiest foster I have had. She is so affectionate. She is a little shy at first but quickly adjusts. She is eager to learn and loves her treats! As she continues to come out of her shell she Will become more playful. Health history: UTD on vaccinations, is spayed, microchipped, & on monthly heartworm preventative. She is currently being treated for a GI issue and will complete treatment before being move. This dog originates from Greece where leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster comments: I can not say enough about how easy this girl is . She is one of 5 dogs but really the easiest of the bunch. If you are looking for a relaxed house dog that wants to snuggle this is your dog.She doesn't look like a setter but she has the personality of a pocket setter. Although her name is Blackie she is not black she is a deep Sable brown with white markings.I am willing to drive an additional 500 miles for the right adopter Foster Location: Long Beach, CA Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $75.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI).  Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##2448876##
