My story

Poppi is ready for her furever home! After a rough start in life, Poppi is fully recovered from her parvo and up to date on vaccinations and heartworm negative. She is ready to rock and roll in her new home. Poppi is approximately 1 1/2 years old and still in need of training and socialization. Poppi is a mellow girl who loves porch sitting. She is not reactive on walks but does not care for dogs in her personal space. She is great to walk and an absolute delight as an office dog. Poppi is not high energy and is a quiet dog. Poppie is a total love to people, especially women. She wants to be with you and be involved in family life, but gives you space, checking in occasionally. She is a Velcro dog in that she likes to be around you, but she is not on top of you. She loves to flop over on her back for a good belly rub and is happy to bet brushed and groomed. At the vet, she is tolerant and easy, even with nail clipping. Poppi is an Aussie mix, and the best guess is Aussie, Anatolian and Retriever. She is a big girl, about 55 lbs but tall and lean. She. Is protective and very aware and will alert with a small woof if someone is around. She is not a big barker though - she is a quiet dog. Poppi is crate trained and housetrained. She is still a young dog, so will chew inappropriate things if left unsupervised. However, she loves her nylabone. She is learning basic obedience by leaps and bounds. She knows sit, stay, and learning leave it, shake and down. She does jump when excited and happy, so no children. She will need continued socialization to build her confidence and continue on her path to a well-adjusted family companion. Poppi can be a bit of a couch potato. She will do best in a home that prioritizes training. Poppi will need an owner who is willing to provide clear boundaries and lots of positive reinforcement. She is a lovely easy dog. Her foster is continuing to assess her tolerance for other dogs. Poppi is a wonderful companion who adores her people and will watch over them with care. She has a bit of a prey drive, with a lot of interest in rabbits and squirrels. When walking, she will lunge after them, unless told not to, then she just watches. This is purely a training issue and her prey drive is not strong. She takes food gently, and is smart, picking up routines and rules quickly. Her perfect family will continue her training using positive reinforcement and continue her socialization. Poppie does not have a high need for large yards but loves her walks. Poppi is not spayed yet, so a commitment to have her spayed will be critical. Poppi is located in Falls Church, VA. If Poppi sounds perfect for you, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new furever family.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Poppi, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
