My story

Phoenix - Female - DOB- 9/5/2023 Phoenix is living up to her name—but she needs the right home to truly rise from the ashes. This stunning long-haired black beauty with a soft gray “necklace” was rescued off the streets, pregnant and unsure of the world. She raised her babies like the fierce, protective queen she is, and now that they’ve found homes, it’s finally her turn. Phoenix’s past is unknown, but it left her cautious. Over the past four months, she’s slowly built trust with her foster mom—meowing for attention, seeking out pets, and even inviting play. But that trust didn’t come overnight, and it won’t with her future adopter either. She needs a home willing to go at her pace. She’s not a fan of being grabbed or rushed. Phoenix communicates clearly—sometimes with a hiss, a swat, or a loud meow. It’s not aggression; it’s boundaries. And if you’re patient, respectful, and open to learning her language, she’ll show you just how much love she has to give. Phoenix may do okay with other calm, respectful pets, but introductions must be slow and thoughtful. She’s shown interest in the other animals in her foster home but also struggles with dominance, especially with assertive cats. With dogs, she’s defensive but doesn’t retaliate. If your current pet is more passive and you’re committed to slow intros, it could work. Otherwise, Phoenix may prefer to be your one and only. Her gorgeous coat is recovering beautifully from the stress of motherhood, and her playful spirit is returning more each day. Phoenix doesn’t need perfection—just someone who sees her, respects her, and is ready to earn her trust. **Thank you for your interest in adopting one of our animals! Please be aware that we do not ship animals; all adoptions require in-person pickup in Omaha, NE, at a mutually agreed-upon location. Adoptions are processed on a first-approved basis, meaning that the first approved applicants receive priority in choosing an animal. NALA Rescue is run entirely by volunteers, and we greatly appreciate your support and patience throughout the adoption process. Completing the application thoroughly helps us match you with the perfect pet and speeds up the review process. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to hearing from you. If you are interested in Phoenix, please complete an application at www.nalarescue.org. **

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Phoenix, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
