My story

Now’s the perfect time to adopt! I’m one of the lucky pets featured in Clear the Shelters 2025! My adoption fee is reduced by $50 through September 15! Current Location: Baltimore, MD Meet Dixie! With her soulful eyes and buttery cream coat, Dixie is a gentle 57-pound beauty who’s truly starting to shine. Around 2 years old, she’s adjusting to her foster home and showing her sweet, affectionate nature every day. Energy & Personality Dixie is a calm and laid-back girl who loves being close to her people. She’s happiest lounging by your side, soaking up scratches, or curling up for snuggles. As she’s gotten more comfortable, her playful side has started to peek through, and she’s showing more interest in toys and chew bones. Training & Behavior In just a few short weeks of being in foster care, Dixie has made amazing progress with leash walking. She’s gone from not knowing what a leash was to strolling around the block. While she’s still learning and getting comfortable, she’s doing wonderfully and will only get better with time and consistency. Dixie is house-trained, settles well when left loose in the home, and spends her days snoozing on the couch. She’s starting to become more food-motivated which will help with her training. Social Life Dixie does well with other dogs. She coexists peacefully and has gently played with her foster sibling - the first dog he’s ever bonded with so quickly. A calm canine companion may help her feel secure, but she could also thrive as an only dog with the right support. She loves meeting strangers, both in her foster home and while out on walks. If they allow her, she is happy to give a big kiss to express her love. Quirks & Special Traits Dixie is affectionate, gentle, and eager to connect. She doesn’t need constant attention—just being close to her people makes her content. With each passing day, she shows more confidence and joy, proving she’s ready to blossom into the loyal best friend she’s meant to be. Best Home and Family Fit Dixie would love a patient, steady home where she can continue building on her progress. She’s an easygoing, lovable girl who wants nothing more than to be near her people, soak up affection, and enjoy life at her own gentle pace. Veterinary Care - Up to date on vaccinations - Spayed - Microchipped - On heartworm prevention - Flea/tick prevention - Dewormed

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Dixie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
