My story

SPECIAL NEEDS - Congenital Heart Defect - Tetralogy of Fallot Echo is super sweet 9 month old grey medium hair female looking for a very special adopter. Echo came to us along with 10 other cats from an eviction situation. None of the cats were spayed or neutered :( Echo is one of the sweetest cats and loves to be pet and doesn't mind being held. She also loves other cats and would do well in just about any home. Now here is a little more about our special girl and the congenital birth defect she has :( When Echo went to vet, the vet noted she had grade IV heart murmur. We didn't realize how significant this was until she went to get an echocardiogram. Sadly she has what is called a Tetralogy of Fallot and several concurrent heart defects: a ventricular septal defect (VSD), pulmonic stenosis, and malpositioning of the aorta. These defects often result in increased workload. Surgery is not an option. The prognosis for this disease is guarded, however right now for Echo, she seems to be tolerating the combination of her heart defects well - progression over time will give us a better idea of her long term prognosis.  Although Echo can play, we need to limit bursts of exercise and excitement (i.e., she should not be hchasing the laser or chasing toys for long periods of time). We do not know what Echo's life expectancy is but we know it will be significantly shorter than most cats. We are looking for a very special adopter that will cherish Echo for as long as she has. We also need an adopter that understands that Echo needs to have a cardiologist as part of her regular veterinarian team and will need to have echocardiograms performed regularly to monitor her heart. At this time, Echo does not need any medication.  We would also be open to a long-term foster (needs to live within 30 minutes of North Haven where her current cardiologist is located). Echo is negative for FelV/FIV, received age-appropriate vaccines, dewormed, and is microchipped (free lifetime registration with adoption). All of our pets go home with a "Go Home Goody Bag" that includes a starter supply of food, treats, toys, and a voucher for a free month of pet insurance from Trupanion. Location: Bolton, CTAdoption Fee: fee waived to an approved adopter ##2381761##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Echo (SPECIAL NEEDS - Congenital Heart Defect), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
