My story

** $25 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** Nancy D ACCT-A-226653 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Nancy D must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, AUGUST 16TH at 10AM. Should Nancy D's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Nancy D came to ACCT Philly on July 23rd after being found left alone in Penny Pack Park. A concerned finder brought her in, reporting she was friendly but scared. Since arriving, Nancy D has shown herself to be a gentle soul who is still adjusting to the shelter environment. She can be a bit shy and cautious in new situations, but she has steadily warmed up to people, showing a loose, wagging tail and a social demeanor when feeling comfortable. She enjoys slow walks with plenty of time to sniff and explore, and while she isn’t highly treat-motivated, she takes food gently. Nancy D has done well meeting calmer dogs, but can be overwhelmed by pushier dogs. If she is going to a home with another dog, she would do best with a respectful canine companion. Please bring all members of your household and any resident dogs along to meet her. Due to her length of stay, Nancy D is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Pulled moderately. Curious and sniffing people as we passed by them, flinched and then moved away when one man moved. Met Brittle Moe on leash. Avoidant and sniffing initially, tail down, ears back, soft body. Meeting on leash she had helicopter tail, did some play bows and spins, disengaged quickly. Peed and pooped while outside. Per volunteer 8/10: Perfect! Per volunteer 8/7: Medium energy. So good, howls w/ sirens. Good walk. Per volunteer 8/3: Low-medium energy. Not interactive. Gentle w/ treats. Per staff 8/2: Nancy D had a drop leash dog meet with Darko. Darko was way too much for her and she corrected him several times. She might be ok with a calmer and more respectful dog. Per staff 7/29: Making exp gold due to improvement in behavior. Did not pull on leash outside, seems to only be in kennel. did great with adopters in the lobby, she was super social and friendly with a loose body and wagging tail. She allowed all handling from them. Per volunteer 7/27: Kennel Presence: When I approached her kennel, she came forward with a wiggly body and wagging tail, very loose body language, and excited to go on a walk! I looped her head very easily and she popped right out of the kennel. Leash: Definitely pulls on leash and would recommend a harness, strong girl, but very manageable with some leash pressure. Loves to stop and leisurely explore smells on the walk! Handling: Out in the play yard she sniffed all around. Was a bit avoidant of me and didn’t come to me for attention much. I approached her with a hot dog piece and she came forward and gently licked it out of my hand and didn’t take it after that. Not treat motivated at all today. Interested in dogs walking past and watched them with a still body and alert ears. At one point, I accidentally scared her when my shoe made a sound on a rock- she jumped and crouched then relaxed when she realized what the sound was. Definitely overwhelmed here and low energy. Didn’t attempt any pets as she wasn’t asking for them. Color: Gave blue as she was pretty avoidant and a little jumpy but could be bumped down to gold if she continues to be pretty chill with no issues handling. Per finder 7/23: Behavior seems ok with strangers. Friendly, scared. MEDICAL: On 7/31, Nancy D was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus and is scheduled to be on doxycycline until 8/13. During her intake exam on 7/24, Nancy D weighed 67.7 pounds and was noted to be previously spayed. Her eyes were a little red and her ears were a little waxy, her teeth had some tartar and staining, and she had a small amount of dander, but no fleas or hair loss. It was noted that there was a small mass on her left hind leg. - Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly’s Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nancy D, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
