My story

Meet Freddie – Your 68-Pound Snuggle Buddy with a Heart of Gold!Looking for a big, lovable goofball to steal your heart? Meet Freddie! This stunning reddish mixed-breed hunk came to us as an unclaimed stray and is ready to leave his wandering days behind for a life full of love, adventure, and belly rubs.Freddie is the definition of a cuddle bug—he lives for affection and will gently rest his head on your chest like he’s known you forever. But don’t let that soft side fool you—he’s also full of playful energy and loves a good zoomie session in the yard. A fenced-in space would be a dream for this fun-loving boy!Out in the world, Freddie truly shines. With a nose loop, his leash manners are fantastic, and he’s become one of our go-to dogs for pack walks, training new volunteers, and attending community events. He’s confident, steady, and incredibly well-mannered, making him a volunteer favorite for park outings and everyday adventures.Freddie has shown promising social skills with other dogs. While introductions at the shelter can sometimes be overwhelming for him, he has done wonderfully with dogs on outings and in neutral environments, showing respectful and appropriate behavior. With the right introduction, he has great potential to share a home with a canine companion. At this time, however, we do not believe he would thrive in a home with cats.Freddie is also incredibly smart and eager to please. When working on training, he is focused, quick to learn, and loves having a job to do. He would greatly benefit from continued training in his forever home to help him build confidence and structure.Freddie does have some resource guarding tendencies with toys. When items are suddenly taken away, he can become anxious, as those toys are something he truly values. The good news is that this is very manageable—when his space and belongings are respected, he does wonderfully. We’ve found that allowing him to keep his toys while he’s in his space and then picking them up once he’s moved on works very well. He’s already showing progress as he learns that his favorite things aren’t gone forever.Freddie is a curious and adventurous boy, so while he enjoys time in the yard, we recommend supervised outdoor time, even in a fenced-in space. His curiosity and athleticism can sometimes get the best of him, so having a watchful eye on him will help keep him safe. His recall is still a work in progress, but with consist

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Freddie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
