My story

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information.Nermo is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He will hiss and at time lunge in his den due to his high FAS, and he has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. At times if her is given a quiet moment to sit with the behavior staff and settle down, he will return some slow blinks and may accept some cheek pets with a scratcher tool (remaining tense). Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible to allow him to decompress. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. What my friends at ACC say about me:I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.A volunteer writes: Nermo has been adored and admired, celebrated and loved, so being back at the shelter seems to have come as quite a shock. Initially found outside, he was most recently brought into the Care Center when his guardian could no longer care for him. All we want is to help him settle in but when I went to say hello, Nermo swiftly explained it wasn't a good time. Everyone can have a bad day, everyone can have a string of bad days even, but what we don't want is Nermo's not so good days to accumulate and turn into something he isn't. Nermo's notes beautifully and lovingly describe a bubbly and joyful cat who loves to play and be with those he loves. He could just use a little help right now and maybe that help will come from you? Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 10.11 Age: 7yrs 10mths 0wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nermo, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
