My story

RESCUE ONLYMeet Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers! They came into the Mesquite animal shelter on 7/7 as their owner passed away. The sweet pups are bonded and are having a hard time being at the shelter. Everyone is very kind to them, Fred and Ginger will still shake and you see such worry in their eyes. Fred Astaire is a very handsome 8 yr old male Chihuahua mix that weighs 18lbs. He has soft brown fur and deep brown eyes. It breaks our hearts to see him shaking and hiding his face in the corner of every room to make himself seem small to not be seen. Petting does give him comfort and stops shaking. They may prefer men as when one sat down on the floor, Fred climbed into his lap for love and pets. Fred & Ginger are ok with leashing, but will not walk and were carried to our meet and greet room. They were not interested in any treats or toys. They showed no reaction to other dogs barking at them. They just wanted to find a safe place to sit near each other. Due to their age and situation, they are Rescue Only. It`s very clear these two pups need to be out of the shelter environment and into one of our wonderful rescue foster homes so they can be shown all the love and kindness they deserve. Please help by sending a rescue tag to rescues@cityofmesquite.com with the subject line TAG Fred #58859823 and Ginger #58859818.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Fred Astaire, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
