My story

Meet Genesis, an almost 2-year-old Cane Corso with a loyal heart and a love for fetch and tug. He was surrendered when his family lost their housing, and he’s now looking for someone familiar with guardian breeds who can help him feel safe and understood. True to his breed, Genesis is wary of strangers and will bark to let you know someone’s around—but once he knows you, he’s all tail wags and affection. He’s house trained and has done well with respectful kids 10+ who let him approach at his own pace. We don’t have any history with cats. Genesis hasn’t had much experience with other dogs, but he’s been curious and a bit nervous here, so he should meet any potential dog siblings first. If you’re comfortable managing introductions and want a loving, playful companion who’ll be your shadow once he bonds with you, Genesis could be the perfect match. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
