Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet girl ISO fresh start and love!PENNIE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Pennie and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (09/07) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria, VA (3351 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name: Pennie Best Guess for Breed: Retriever and hound mix Best Guess for Age: 4.5 years as of May 2025 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 42 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living At: DC area foster home What Pennie Is Like: Hi, I'm Pennie, and here are the things you should know about me: - I am just the sweetest, prettiest, and very smart little girl, I am very food motivated to learn whatever you ask me to do. I am working on sitting, stay, paw, and down right now and learning very fast! - I am doing very well with potty training and also crate training. I sleep through the night in my crate and hang there during the day, and if you need to leave, I stay in a crate without whining or barking. - I rarely bark, for example when I see a cow, or a blanket that is soft and fluffy but I thought it was more fun to bark at it and bite it. - I am still learning to be consistent with loose leash walking. But that's because I love to run! If you like to run, I would loooooooove to be your running buddy, or help you reach your daily goal of 10 000 steps. Let's explore together! - I don't get on furniture, and didn't really like the soft comfy bed I was given. But if you want to convince me otherwise, remember I am very treat motivated. - I am friendly with all the people and dogs, and don't want to miss any action around me. If all those sound good for you, come meet me and see if we can become best friends! Pennie is Looking For: Her forever family! This sweetie landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and she is eagerly looking forward to once again having her own humans. Sniffy walks (that hound nose!), all the adventures her family can dream up, quality kibble, and a cushy dog bed - yes, please! But at the top of her wish list - well, she's an experienced dog well out of the puppy yips and knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under her own roof. Heartworm Information: Pennie is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. Pennie has completed the treatment and activity restriction phase, and is awaiting her six-month follow up test. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
