My story

Core: Core is a handsome boy, a lap cat that loves pets! He has good history with kids 2, 12, and 16, and he has lived with dogs and they all played and slept together. We love polydactyl cats with their cute big feet, but they have extra toes that may be more likely to grow into the paw pad. His adopter will need to trim his nails regularly. DECOMPRESSION: We recommend starting Core in his own space, ideally a spare bathroom or small bedroom. He should have a secure hiding space that is easily accessed by his adopters (a covered large dog crate is a fantastic option), options to climb vertically, and easy access to food, water, and a large litter box. He should not be approached or pet or picked up when he is hiding or showing fearful body language. Ideally, with enough time to himself, he will begin to relax and move around more freely while youre visiting his room. Once he is consistently moving around comfortably, with relaxed body language, he will be ready to start exploring other parts of the house. He will need a very slow introduction to the home, and expectations should be kept very low at first. His adopters need to understand that he is going to need time (weeks to a month or more) to show more of his true personality. We are looking for an adopter who is committed to spending the first several weeks allowing him to decompress. During that time, his adopter should focus on observing his behavior and body language to better get to know him and identify his likes and dislikes, and make adjustments to his space and your interactions with him based on his preferences. His adopters should be comfortable identifying and addressing potential challenges as they arise. No unnecessary pressure should be put on him as he settles in. He should be allowed to make his own choices about when to interact and when to keep to himself. Core previously lived in an indoor/outdoor home, but we think he would do just fine as an indoor-only cat. COMPATIBILITY:KIDS: Yes! Core did great with kids in his previous home. DOGS: Yes!
