My story

My Foster Writes: Like her name suggests, Tourmaline is a rare gem! Tourmaline, or Tourmie, as we often call her, is an absolute sweetheart. This 10 year old pup has a heart full of love and would be the perfect addition to complete any family! She is house-trained and very respectful inside - she's never chewed or got into anything (she even ignores our cats litter box)! She absolutely loves to cuddle and relax, but she is always down for an adventure. She adores belly rubs. She loves people and is very friendly with other dogs! She is pretty flexible and seems to do good in both a quieter home or a bustling home with more people. So far she has had no touch sensitivities and she lets me pick her up, check her teeth, and even lets me wipe down her paws after walks! She also has shown no signs of resource guarding. She has not quite learned yet that begging for food is impolite, so she does whine a bit when you eat around her, but she usually stops after a few minutes and never tries to grab or take human food! She is also completely unbothered by the vacuum. We have not used a crate with her and I have not left her alone yet, but her previous foster has left her alone for up to 5 hours at a time and says she does well free roaming and does not chew/mess with anything.Tourmie also doesn't mind sleeping in, so if you've always wanted a dog but are not a morning person and don't know if you can commit to a 7am wake up call, Tourmie might be a perfect match! Tourmaline is a great conversationalist as she is quite vocal - she does not frequently bark - but she does whine, grunt and grumble when she is excited or wants something, which in my opinion is very cute!! So if you are someone who believes pets should be seen and not heard, she's probably not a good fit, in fact, a cat may be more your speed. She is a pro at walking and usually walks with a loose leash and only pulls a little when she gets excited to see another dog. She is very food motivated which is great for training. She takes treats super gently and even when she is excited she is not mouthy at all. She knows "sit" and "down." She is totally unfazed walking in the city and doesn't bat an eye at passing cars, bikes, scooters, or children. Since Tourmaline is not mouthy and has no touch sensitivity, she would probably be a great family pet and I believe she would do well with children which the proper introduction! Overall Tourmaline is quite an angel and by far one of my easiest fosters! She would be great for a medium active person who is looking for a cuddly companion. My Foster wrote: Tourmaline is as sweet as they come. Give her love, plenty of walks and exercise. Tourmaline will steal your heart! You won't regret adding this gorgeous girl to your family! Primary Color: Brown Weight: 52 Age: 10yrs 2mths 3wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Tourmaline, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
