My story

Meet Colita! Her name means “little tail” in Spanish—very fitting for this petite 31-pound pup! Colita came to us all the way from Puerto Rico with the help of our amazing rescue partners at Operation Paws for Homes and Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. She`s still figuring out the world, but she’s doing it one small, brave step at a time. Colita can be a little shy at first, especially with quick movements or new places, but once she feels safe, she’s all about those gentle pets and quiet moments. She’s not super into toys, she`ll give a tennis ball a sniff, then decide that your company is more interesting. Colita prefers a little peace and quiet at mealtimes. She’s the type who likes to dine without interruptions, so giving her space during meals is the way to her heart. If you have another pup at home, we recommend bringing them in for a meet-and-greet to see if they’ll make the perfect packmates. If you’re the kind of person who appreciates the quiet joy of earning a shy dog’s trust, Colita might just be your girl. Give her time, and that little tail of hers will start wagging just for you!This pet is eligible for an Adoption Audition! What is an Adoption Audition? It’s a 5-day, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period. You can take this pet home to try it out! Interested? Come to the shelter any time during open hours and talk to one of our Customer Care staff!Be sure to check the “shelter information” box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours!
