My story

** $480 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** ** New Notes & Videos 7/24 ** Mya ACCT-A-225238 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Mya must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, JULY 26TH at 10AM. Should Mya's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Mya arrived at ACCT Philly on July 8th after being found as a stray. Although she was found with a microchip, we were not able to get in contact with her owner. Mya has been shy and reserved since arrival, but shelter staff and volunteers have seen small signs of progress that point to her gentle nature. At first, she flinched at touch and avoided interaction, often retreating to the corner of her kennel. But with time and consistency, she's begun to open up to familiar handlers, especially in calm environments. She’s house-trained and walks with minimal pulling, and remains neutral when passing other dogs. While in playgroup, she was nervous and dainty, but overcorrected and started an altercation with another dog. In one meet, she gave a firm correction when overwhelmed by another dog's exuberance but quickly settled and walked alongside him calmly. She would likely do best in a quiet home that will offer her space to decompress and the patience to build trust at her pace. Please bring all members of your household any any resident dogs along to meet her. Due to her length of stay, Mya is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. VIDEOS: NEW! Per volunteer 7/24: "Mya is well a manner in her kettle gave me no issues leashing and she walks through the kennel aisles paying no attention to the other dogs. She's definitely trying to stay house trained. We spent some time outside, and she seems to love playing fetch. She will chase and retreive the ball, and it seems she's learning or knew how to drop the ball, but she may need a refresher. On the grassy area Mya laid down, and was approached by a volunteer who had her out previously and Maya rolled over, offered her belly and loved getting belly rubs. Belly rubs are definitely signs of progress that point to her gentle nature. I have no issue of returning her to her kennel." Per staff 7/21: We did a meet with Mya and Henry. He came on a bit fast and was trying to jump up on her so she gave a correction. We gave them a moment and they both got some sniffs in then walked alongside each other. Per volunteer 7/18: Pulls a little, aloof. Per volunteer 7/13: Took Mya out for the photoshoot today. She has previous notes about being shy and another volunteer noted that when she first got to acct she trembled when being pet/touched.... today she seemed much more open and less scared. She appears house trained! Outside she walked with a low, neutral tail and remained still while being pet but did not solicit more pets. He ears were pinned and alert during her time outside and she spent a lot of time looking around and observing. We passed dogs in close proximity both in the shelter hallway and through the fence- and Mya remained neutral (body language barely changed at all, she kept walking with low slow tail wags) Per staff 7/11: Very sweet. Per staff 7/10, playgroup: Nervous, steerable, corrected, gentle/dainty, avoidant, tense, starting fight / over corrects. Got into altercation with other dog and had to be removed from yard. Marking as selective/reactive. Per volunteer 7/9: A little shy at first but followed me and stayed close. Per volunteer 7/9: Kennel presentation: Mya was sitting at the front of her crate with soft eyes, tail low but not tucked. She allowed me to leash her but once leashed she flinched, and ran out of her crate. Tail tucked, whale eyes. Leash: minimal pulling Handling: on leash Mya was very nervous. She seemed to be housebroken, as soon as we made it outside she relieved herself. I took her in the volunteer room to do her eval. In the room she would pace and stress pant. She allowed handling with me but was very nervous. Anytime I would pet her, her body would flinch and she had her tail tucked. Two medical staff members walked into the room and she began to bark at them out of nervousness. The one medical staff member went low and Mya been to wag her tail (mid tail wags) and slowly approach the staff member. She had no interest in toys, treats, or play. Returning her to kennel she did not want to go back in. She kept retreating away. I had to get another staff member to help me put her back in. Play: No interest Toys: No interest Color: Blue Per finder: Almost got hit by a car. Walked on leash. Shy. MEDICAL: NEW! Per an exam on 7/23: "Flagged for worsening URI signs on dog walkthrough Assessment Complicated URI Concern for pneumonia Plan TX: Start Enrofloxacin 136mg 2.25 tablets SID PO x 10 days" On 7/14, Mya was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus and is scheduled to be on doxycycline until 7/27. During her intake exam on 7/8, Mya appeared to be in good health overall. Her eyes, ears, nose, and coat were clean and her teeth were white. - Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat.
