It is never too late to Graduate. That is correct!! Our little old man Duncan has been doing wonderful with being an only animal, has been doing amazing not needing a diaper with a wonderful let out routine and would LOVE to be someone's forever shadow. He has graduating from hospice and is now a senior adoptable. Duncan is a sweet 10-pound poodle mix who came to us from Saint Paul Animal Control and who started in our Hospice Program. Estimated to be around 18 1/2 years old, Duncan may be a senior in years, but don’t tell him that—he is spunky, a little feisty, and has a spark that wins hearts everywhere he goes. He is still so peppy that he has been mistaken for a puppy by passersby on walks. And just like a young dog, he gets adorably excited when you return home. This charming little gentleman is looking for a calm, cozy home where he can be the only pet—he’s not a fan of other dogs or cats and prefers to soak up all the love for himself. He’s deaf, has limited vision, and can get a little anxious when left alone. Once he trusts you’re nearby, he settles right in and naps contently. Duncan is housetrained with regular potty breaks, though due to his Cushing’s disease, he can wear a belly band or diapers during the day. He’s very manageable with a consistent routine—ideally with someone who works from home or is around most of the day. He sleeps soundly through the night, isn’t an early riser, and will even use stairs to get on and off furniture. He enjoys short walks, and for longer outings, he’s happy to cruise along in a sling or backpack. He takes three daily pills for arthritis, blood pressure, and Cushing’s—but he is a pro at it! Pop them in his food or a treat and he’s all set. He loves mealtime and is motivated by food. He’ll bark a bit when he’s left alone, but otherwise he’s a quiet, mellow companion who just wants to be near his person. After just a few days in a new foster home, Duncan’s was fast to get more confident exploring the house and yard. He’s a resilient little guy who’s still got plenty of life and love to give. With just your presence to share with Duncan, he is the easiest, sweetest, cutest buddy to have by your side. If you’ve got space in your heart and home for a loyal little shadow with a big heart, Duncan just might be your perfect match! From the Vet: Three cheers for Duncan on getting this far in his journey, we just know his person is out there waiting for the perfect senior companion! As stated above, he does have some arthritis (totally typical for an older gentleman) and his Cushing's and Tubular proteinuria or excess protein in his urine has been well controlled on his medications. His medications will run his adopters about $130-$150 per month depending on his needs and future recommendations from his future primary care veterinarian. We recommend that an adopter get him set up with an appointment soon after adoption so they can continue monitoring his progress. On our current schedule, he will be due for recheck lab work at the end of the year sometime in December. Could you be the one to open your home to this only child to live the good life and finally land a forever home?!
