My story

Meet August! Back in early May, we made a visit to a metro area shelter after they had sent out an urgent plea for help. As we were walking through the back rooms of the shelter, where the public doesn’t go, August caught our attention. Not because he was acting crazy trying to get attention, but because he didn’t even lift his head to look at us as we approached his kennel. Not sure if he was scared or shy or what was going on, we opened up his kennel and found that he was actually very sick. As we held him, we could feel him wheezing - he had the dreaded upper respiratory infection so so common in that shelter. There was no way we were leaving him there! Fast forward several weeks and August, affectionately known as Auggie, is all healed and perfectly healthy! He’s an 8ish year old Shih Tzu (mix?) and around 15 lbs. We don’t know anything about his past, but we are pretty sure someone loved him at some point and took him on lots of car rides - if his foster family even looks in the direction of the garage, this boy is ready to GO! Unfortunately, we’re also pretty sure he’s been mistreated in the past as well as he seems to have conflicting feelings on people. Auggie is absolutely the sweetest boy once he knows and trusts you, but he is going to need a dog savvy adopter who will let him settle in at his own pace. He’s great with other dogs and cats, but he has more of a take it or leave it attitude with both - so he would likely do just fine as an only fur child or equally fine joining an existing pack. Ultimately, Auggie’s dream home is a quiet, adult only home without a lot of commotion or strangers coming and going. A single adult looking for a soulmate to run errands with and then curl up on the sofa for quality tv time would be Auggie’s dream come true! Interested in seeing if dear August might be what’s been missing from your life? Email adrienne@rescuemega.org or fill out an adoption application on our website- www.rmgdogs.org PLEASE NOTE: August is not available for adoption to households with children - 18 and up only ##2446898##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt August (Auggie), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
