My story

Meet Zara – A Stunning Soul Seeking the Right Pack Zara isn’t just any dog—she’s a breathtaking, 2-year-old Alaskan Malamute/Husky/Wolfdog mix with a heart as big as her paws. With DNA results confirming she’s mostly Alaskan Malamute and Husky, along with 14% wolf and 7% Calupoh (Mexican Wolfdog), Zara is a unique girl looking for a very specific kind of home. Wolf dogs like Zara, while they are extremely social animals, they are also naturally neophobic, meaning they may be fearful of new environments, people, or experiences. Because of this, her future family must be patient, understanding, and committed to giving her the time she needs to settle in at her own pace. She does warm up to new people quickly, and once she bonds with you—she bonds for life. Zara is extremely sweet, affectionate, and incredibly loving with those she trusts. She seeks out pets and snuggles from her people constantly. She also loves getting zoomies in the yard, playing in the pool, and playing with toys, especially ones that squeak! She would do best in a home where she is not alone often, and can be with her humans; which is really where she thrives. She has been amazing with all staff and volunteers. She’s also very smart and knows basic commands. Zara does well with other dogs and has had positive interactions with both people and pups with proper introductions. A meet-and-greet is required if you have a resident dog to ensure it’s the right match for everyone. She walks well on leash around our shelter neighborhood, but like many dogs with her breed background, she can be wary of loud noises or busy environments. Zara isn’t a dog who’s going to enjoy bustling downtown patios or crowded parks. She thrives in quiet, natural spaces—hiking trails, open land, and calm environments where she can feel secure. Her adopter must be able to safely contain her when she is outdoors, as Wolfdogs are known for being intelligent and escape-prone if not properly secured. Adoption Requirements for Zara: • Prior experience with Wolfdog's (most preferred), Alaskan Malamutes, Siberian Huskies, or similar large spitz breeds • Owned home only (no apartments, please) • Fully fenced yard with at least 6-foot fencing • Adult-only home Zara is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date on flea and heartworm prevention. She’s a favorite among our staff and volunteers, and we are committed to finding her the safe, knowledgeable, and loving forever home she deserves. Think you might be Zara’s person? Apply today. Please note that Zara’s adoption fee is a specialized fee to help ensure she goes to a home with the right experience and environment for her success.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Zara, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
