My story

đŸ¶ 🐕 LUCY Female Border collie mix approximately 4 Years, 60 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 đŸ¶ Meet LUCY, a 4-year-old love muffin! LUCY is such a sweet, friendly girl that when she was picked up by animal control, the officer had her ride in the front seat of the truck with him and while she stayed at the shelter, the shelter manager kept LUCY in the office with her. At the veterinarian’s office for each and every appointment, staff all wanted to work with LUCY. And they all came out to say good-bye when it was time for her to go home with her foster mom. She greets everyone by extending her front paw, as if to shake hands, and then she quickly moves in for a hug. LUCY is a big girl, weighing 60 pounds, but she is gentle in her movements. She loves to play with toys, but she’s not pushy about it, the way some border collies can be. She is even content to play with a toy on her own. She loves treats and was quickly crate-trained by being given treats for going into her crate. Treats and toys will be great motivators for her as her new family continues to train her. She already knows the “sit” command and to load up in her crate in the car. She will walk on a leash, but she needs to learn how to walk next to her person rather than back and forth in front. The good news is that she likes to be close to her person, so this kind of fine-tuning in her leash walking should come easily to her. LUCY also stays close to her foster mom initially when she’s off leash, following her around the yard when she’s doing work in the yard; after a short time, LUCY will explore on her own, but she always checks back in. She has a moderate activity level and loves to flop down in frog position to cool off or have a quick rest. LUCY enjoys the company of other dogs, but she doesn’t need them. She happily “suffers” the rowdy, relentless play of her young foster brother, and she is a very sweet and gentle when she visits other families with dogs. Within minutes, she has made new friends. She even shares toys. She would be happy as an only dog but could also live nicely with another dog, as long as her new family makes sure she gets all the love she craves and deserves. “Touch” is LUCY’S love language! LUCY is crate-trained (42”crate) and is quiet in her crate for sleeping and down time. She has lovely house manners and has never had an accident in her foster home. She will sometimes put her feet up on the counter, claim a couch (nicely, of course!), or come up for a big hug. And she has the “best” flop on the ground when her foster mom attempts to attach her leash. These are things she’s working on. LUCY is ready to meet her forever family! She’d like a family that will shower her with love, treats, and toys; share lots of their time with her, building on her lovely disposition as they train her to her full potential. She would especially like to learn how to walk on a leash so she and her family can enjoy regular walks and she can meet all the neighbors and make them her friends. LUCY is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about LUCY, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. LUCY is fostering north of Sacramento County, CA.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt LUCY, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
