This 12-year-old Shih Tzu may not be able to sing, but he sure knows how to win hearts! Garth came to us from the Taylor shelter after being found severely matted and roaming the streets with a testicular tumor. Thankfully, the shelter stepped in and performed his neuter surgery just in time to prevent the tumor (a Sertoli cell tumor) from spreading — talk about a lucky break! Now freshly shaved, flea-free, and finally comfy, Garth is settling into the good life and loving every minute of it. His favorite hobby? Napping..and he takes it very seriously! But when he’s awake, Garth is a happy, goofy boy who adores everyone he meets. He greets people with gentle tail wags, loves ear scratches (though he’ll never demand them), and enjoys being near his people — even if he’s just relaxing quietly in the same room. He’s respectful of personal space, doesn’t jump, and doesn’t lick or pester for attention. Just a polite little gentleman. He especially loves the teenagers in his foster home and has even become besties with his human foster brother — they’re practically inseparable!Garth is also a groomer’s dream — calm and patient for baths, nail trims, and all things spa-related. He doesn’t love being crated but causes no trouble when left loose and sleeps peacefully through the night in his favorite bed (which will come with him when adopted!).Around other dogs? Garth does wonderfully with the five small dogs in his foster home. He hasn’t been tested with larger dogs or young kids, but his mellow, respectful nature suggests he’d do fine with gentle, well-mannered companions.Health-wise, Garth is fully vaccinated and recovering beautifully from his neuter. He’s working on shedding a little extra weight (currently just under 15 lbs), and his skin is healing nicely with allergy meds, medicated baths, and flea treatment. No major health concerns right now — just a need for a dental (grade 4). He may also be deaf, as he doesn’t respond to sounds, but that doesn’t stop him from living his best life.Garth Brookes is now ready to find a forever family who will cherish him in his golden years. If you're looking for a loving, low-maintenance sidekick with a heart of gold (and a serious talent for sleeping), Garth just might be your guy!To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Garth Brooks, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
