Introducing Harper! Harper is a very affectionate, people loving 17 mo. old female Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd weighing 82 lbs. She is spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped. She loves the attention of people, often greeting them with her distinctive “cheesy” grin where she pulls back her upper lip. She prefers to have people wait for her to come to them and can be timid if they approach her too quickly. She has been introduced to older kids and loved their attention but has not been around small children. Harper is house, crate and leash trained. She is crated when her owners are not home and sleeps in her crate at night. She is very treat motivated and easy to train. She has received months of training and knows sit, stay, heel, down, stop, leave it, come, and place. She has also learned to do the following “tricks for treats” such as shake, spin and roll over. With her guardian breed DNA she has an independent streak and will test her obedience boundaries if something catches her interest. Her favorite activities are going for walks and hikes and does well at the heel (if the handler is consistent) and will walk on a loose leash. She likes going for walks at the Prescott Courthouse Plaza and is good about ignoring other dogs or people walking by. She shows no interest in skateboards, bikes, etc. She loves riding in the car and watching the other cars go by. She enjoys tug of war and will also do short games of fetch before losing interest. Harper keeps a close eye on the perimeter of her property, giving the big “woof” if she feels someone or some animal is too close. She is very gentle around the horses and will “guard” them. She enjoys her play dates with two different dogs on their own property. Both dogs are more dominant than her and she seems to respect them and loves to play chase with them. Unfortunately, Harper has become very territorial in her home with the other dogs that she lives and was raised with. She has exhibited resource guarding of items of value such as food and her human owners. Her owners worked with a trainer regarding this behavior until recently Harper was aggressive towards and injured one of her owners’ small dogs. For that reason, Harper’s owners feel she needs to be in a home where she is the only dog. She has been fine with other dogs when she is off her own property but definitely is territorial on her own turf. Harper is very loved and is a funny, playful love bug. Her owners are heartbroken to rehome her. If you feel you are a good match and can provide this beautiful girl a fun loving home, please apply today! 🐾💗🐾 Our adoption fee helps cover expenses (vaccinations, microchips, spay/neuter, food, housing) for the homeless pets we rescue.
