My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, June 28th from 12-3pm unless adopted prior to the event. To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance.     Adoption fee: $750 Meet Freedom! Age: 1–2 years old Breed: Papillon Mix Weight: 12 lbs Status: Finally free and ready for his forever home!   After 14 long days stuck in a shelter kennel, Freedom finally got what his name promises— freedom! This brave little guy never got to leave his kennel during that time, so you'd expect him to be a bit stressed once he got to DPS... but the second he got out, he was a joyful boy with a bounce in his step. Now, he’s living the good life in his foster home, and he’s ready to find his forever family.   Freedom is the total package: affectionate, playful, smart, and always up for an adventure. He’s the kind of pup who will follow you around like your shadow, offer up endless cuddles, and fall asleep in your lap with a contented sigh. He’s learning quickly with training and already knows commands like “sit,” “down,” and “go to bed.” He’s eager to please and bonds quickly to his people, which makes training not only effective, but fun!   Daily Routine: Freedom wakes up around 7am for a quick walk and a light breakfast (he’s not a big morning eater). He enjoys training sessions, longer walks, and playtime throughout the day, and he winds down with some snuggles on the couch before bedtime in his crate near your bed. He’s fully house-trained and can be left in a pen or crate with no issues— he’ll just nap quietly!   Personality: He’s a little ray of sunshine! From the moment he arrived, Freedom was affectionate and trusting. He gives kisses freely, climbs into laps, and charms everyone he meets. He can be a little anxious when left alone at first, especially if he knows you're nearby, but he’s improving with training and time. He’s brave, resilient, and deeply loving.   Energy Level: Freedom is a bundle of energy and joy! He loves his walks, hikes, and even goes on short runs with his foster. He’s agile, confident on trails, and would love an active home where he can stretch his little legs and get his zoomies out. After playtime, he’s a pro at settling into lounge mode.   Around Other Animals & Kids: He’s had calm, polite interactions with other dogs. He’s even let a toddler pet him while being held, and laid belly-up around kids ages 4–10. He's sweet and relaxed around little ones— just happy to be included.   The Ideal Home: Freedom would thrive in a home that gives him love, snuggles, and plenty of exercise. He’d do great in a house or an apartment with daily walks and activities. He’s okay being alone for a few hours but definitely thrives when he gets attention and connection with his humans. A family, a couple, or a single adopter— he just wants someone to love and be loved by.   What Makes Freedom Special: His resilience. His love. His zest for life. He didn’t let two weeks in a shelter cage dull his spirit. He’s joyful, funny, and affectionate— and he’s ready to give someone his whole heart.   Favorite Foster Memory: Freedom once jumped into the ocean to “save” his foster when they went swimming off a paddleboard. He didn’t want to get wet, but he couldn’t bear the thought of someone he loved being in trouble. That’s just the kind of guy he is.   If you’re looking for a tiny, loyal, loving adventurer with a heart of gold and a tail that never stops wagging—Freedom is your guy.                    June 23, 2025, 1:45 pm
