My story

Moon is a super sweet, affectionate 8 week old terrier mix that weighs 11 lbs. She is estimated to be around 55-60 lbs when she is full grown. Moon is best described as mellow, chill, patient, and observant. She is gentle, loving, and has unlimited snuggles and sweet puppy kisses to share with her humans. She is extremely affectionate and loves to be cuddled, especially when she's falling asleep. She likes being carried around and held like a baby on her back, getting her little belly rubs until she dozes off. She enjoys sitting in the backyard watching the other dogs run around and play, just taking in all the scenery as she listens to the wind chimes and gazes at the flowers and trees blowing in the wind around her. She's a big fan of sunbathing and finds a warm sunny spot in the grass to sprawl out on, then closes her eyes and sniffs the air before taking a puppy nap. She is very curious and aware of her surroundings. She will investigate from afar before deciding if she wants to explore something new. Although she is pretty laid back, she still enjoys having fun too. Her favorite thing to do is play with the human toddler in her foster home, and they will take turns chasing each other around the yard. Every time the toddler giggles, Moon gets really excited and does happy little hops as she waits to be chased again. Moon's ideal family would be a mix of laid back and adventurous. As she grows up, she would be a great pup to introduce to fun outdoor adventures hiking, swimming in the river, and exploring the outdoors. Moon is low to medium energy, so she is the perfect mix of active and laid back at her current age. As she gets older, her energy level may increase, but overall she's pretty mellow. She does have short bursts of energy that require play time and mental stimulation activities like puzzle games, playing with the resident dogs, and engaging in fun games of chase with the toddler in the home. She loves to sit outside and take everything in around her - from the wind blowing the trees, to the birds flying in the air, and squirrels running across the fence. She is still working on building her confidence in the big outside world, but her curious nature helps her come out of her shell quickly. She would love a family that enjoys both lounging on the couch cuddling and also spending time outdoors. As she gets older, she would benefit from exposure to more people and other dogs. Going on walks around the neighborhood, joining a puppy training class, or going to doggy day care will help her gain her confidence and be able to burn that puppy energy at the same time. As she gets older and masters leash training, she would be the perfect pup to take on outdoor adventures exploring nature to experience the world around her. Moon is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She is currently in a home with her sister, two older resident large dogs, and kitties. She loves to play with other dogs of any size and age, but she is not a big fan of rough-housing or wrestling. Although she is bigger than her sister, she will cry and run to her foster mom if her little sister starts getting too rough for her liking. She likes to observe the older dogs in her foster home and is picking up on proper doggy communication skills from them. She still has some work to do on learning body language cues though, and is learning that they don't always want her to give them sweet puppy kisses on their faces. She would benefit from having another friendly, playful, and confident dog in her forever home so that she can continue learning from them as she grows. She is very curious of the kitties in her foster home, but does respect their personal space. She likes to lounge around and nap with them on the porch, and really would love to be friends with them, but they ignore her so she just watches them instead. The kitties do join her when she's eating her puppy food out of her food bowl, and she's perfectly happy sharing with them. She would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before as she is a puppy and will eventually want to play with them as she gets older. Moon would do well with kids of all ages as she loves to be cuddled and loved on. Her favorite person in her foster home is the toddler and she loves to snuggle up on her lap for belly rubs. She is going to start teething soon, so keeping lots of chew toys and doggy bones around to redirect her with is important if there are younger children in the home. Since she is very sweet, gentle and affectionate, but also super playful, she would do great with a family with kids who want a fun-loving pup to play and snuggle with. She loves to receive affection from her humans in the form of belly rubs, kisses, and cuddles. She will give you the sweetest puppy kisses to show how much she loves you in return. Moon is kennel trained and is super close to mastering potty training. She has not yet started working on leash training because of her small size. She sleeps in a kennel at night with no fuss, but she does like to have some toys to keep her busy if she happens to wake up in the middle of the night. When she gets older, she would love to snuggle up in bed with her humans every night so she can get in as many cuddles as possible. She is currently potty pad trained, and has started to transition to going outside to do her business. She has not learned to alert her foster mom yet when she needs to potty, so keeping a potty pad by the back door and a bell she can ring every time she goes outside is recommended so she can start associating ringing the bell with wanting to go potty outside. She will need someone that can take her out consistently every few hours while she is still young and learning how to follow a potty schedule. She is still learning what a leash is and right now thinks it is just a toy for her to play with, so she has not yet started working on walking with one yet. Her foster mom will be working on acclimating her to walking around the backyard with a leash on soon, but she will need some more practice perfecting her leash walking skills in her forever home once she is adopted. Moon's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. She would do well in an apartment, condo or townhouse if her human works from home or can take her to a doggy day care or even a dog-friendly office during the day. No public dog parks for this sweet girl because she's not interested in playing rough with other dogs, but she would love to have fun adventures at Sniff Spots occasionally for playtime/exercise if she does live in an apartment or townhome without a private yard. She would also benefit from going to doggy day care so she can make new puppy friends while also burning some energy if you work outside of the home during the day. She would do love to have a family that has other dogs and kids, and would coexist well if there's a kitty in the home too. She does need to have someone home most of the day or that can take her into the office if working a hybrid schedule as she continues working on mastering potty training. She really just loves to be with her humans and loves playing with her humans' kids, so a family with kids of any age would be great for her to grow up with. Moon is in a foster home in Austin, TX.
