My story

One of the Most Heartbreaking Goodbyes  We see a lot of owner surrenders… and sadly, most come with bogus excuses we’ve heard a hundred times. But every so often, one hits us right in the heart—and Shadow’s story is one of the hardest we've witnessed in years. This sweet boy came to us from a young family who loved him dearly. They adopted Shadow 7 years ago from a local rescue that no longer exists. He grew up with them—through marriage, the birth of their first child, and a life full of joy, cuddles, and backyard zoomies. But when their new baby developed severe allergies, medical testing confirmed the heartbreaking truth: it was Shadow’s hair. They tried everything. We spoke with them for weeks. But no family or friend could take him in, and it was clear they had exhausted every option. When they brought him in, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. This wasn’t just a pet being dropped off—this was a family member being painfully, reluctantly let go. Now, it’s our turn to help Shadow. He’s a 7-year-old mixed breed (maybe a little Shepherd, maybe something smaller), about 25 lbs, with a sugar-dipped muzzle and the gentlest soul. He’s lived with kids, is dog friendly, is housebroken, calm, and doesn’t need a crate. We do not know his feelings towards cats, he has never lived with them.  His favorite thing in the world? A fenced yard to run around in—more than any walk, that’s where he found joy. We want his stay here to be short. Shadow has known real love, and we are determined to help him find it again.
