My story

Hello from Connecticut. I’m River, and I appear to be a handsome Shepherd mix, so imagine everyone's surprise when my DNA came back as mostly Pitbull! Yikes! I’m actually a mix of 18 different breeds, including a bit of Miniature Poodle and Collie, but it appears my looks mostly resemble the 6% German Shepherd, 3% Labrador Retriever, and the 1% Polynesian Street Dog! I am about 2 1/2 years old, on the smaller side of medium, weighing about 35 lbs, and I'm one cool dude. I have a medium energy level and can read the room… calm and easygoing indoors… playful and energetic outdoors. I was originally a Texas dog, patiently waiting for adoption at a Laredo Animal Shelter when 4 Little Paws Rescue took me in. A few months later, my dreams came true, and I was adopted in Connecticut, but sadly, due to a family illness, I must now find a new future. I’m sweet and affectionate, love to cuddle, and am not too proud to admit I love doggy toys. I get along great with other dogs and am playful and fun. I love the outdoors, even when it's cold, and I will be a fun companion for someone to explore the outdoors with. I am well-behaved, housebroken, and quiet even when all the household dogs start barking like crazy, I will look to see what’s going on, but maintain my dignity and not join in. I can walk nicely on a leash and be a good boy while riding in the car. I’m currently staying in a CT foster home where my foster dad also happens to be a dog trainer, so I have been learning many commands and social skills, leash walking in crowded areas, and overall just taking advantage of my new digs to become a well-rounded dog! I have become more confident, warm up quickly, and readily come up and meet people even in busy stores! My trainer says I am a very loving dog who loves affection and pets, and building a bond with my owners is important to me. Come over and meet me, but be prepared to fall in love and take me home! * 4 Little Paws is based in CT. We adopt in many different states along the East Coast. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. If you are located outside the states we typically adopt to, we have options to get the dog of your dreams to your location.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt River, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
