My story

What my friends at ACC say about me:My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!I would do best in a home with only adult humans.I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me.A volunteer writes: This handsome boy is Rocko...and he was quick to show me how friendly and smart he is. It was only our first interaction and yet he was quick to warm up....sitting languidly beside me as I rubbed his chin and ears and later leaning in and wiggling into me. I think he sensed I had some treats (a dog's nose is like super-sonic radar!) because he then sat down in front of me and looked up with an adorable "I'm getting a treat for this, right?" expression. As I started handing him the treat, he gave me his paw, which got him a second one...then he slowly went into the "down' position...and oh-my-goodness, that certainly deserved yet another treat!Rocko also loves toys and carries one on our walks, blissfully trotting down the street with it looking utterly adorable. We don't know Rocko's experience with other dogs, but when the shelter introduced him to a novel female, he greeted her with a soft, neutral frame; she ignored him and walked away, and after unsuccessfully trying to solicit her attention, Rocko gave up and walked away.Though Rocko was highly fearful when he first arrived and has been living in a stressful shelter environment, he's been a big friendly, playful boy with me. Sweet Rocko is currently residing at the Queens shelter while he hopes to find his fur-ever home. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 63 Age: 5yrs 1mths 4wks
