My story

She's a black Widow, but she's more cuddly than any spider you'll ever meet! Meet Widow, a beautiful ~6 year old lady who ended up at the shelter when her owner was incarcerated. Widow is a snuggly, affectionate, wiggly, and very well behaved, and seems like she was very loved in her last home. A few highlights from the notes from the family member of Widow's original owner: She knows her name, Sit, Off, Stay, Drop it, Go potty; She is Medium energy - likes some playtime but happy to just chill; She is Mostly housebroken - occasionally has an accident inside; She loves kids! She’s now available for adoption at ACCT Philly! It was a 90+ degree day, so she didn't really want to do that much walking (even in the shade). We did pass another small dog while out walking, and Widow just stood and observed. Instead, she opted for a nice long car ride...I had to drop something off in Lancaster, and once she was in the car with the AC crankled up, she curled right into a ball and slept the whole way out there! She was so affectionate with her kisses, and enjoyed just having a hand on her, gently rubbing her head for the car ride. She's an absolute doll, and anyone would be lucky to have her! Per Volunteer 6/17:I took Widow out for a day trip today and she truly is such a sweet girl. She was great on a leash, but did get spooked by some loud noises. While she may be 80lbs that doesn’t stop her from thinking she’s a lap dog. She’s pure happiness, excitement, and love. She loves cuddling and laying in laps! Sometimes that isn’t close enough and she would nestle her head into mine and into the crook of my neck. She did have very high energy at first and had difficulty settling down but as the day went on she was able to settle and take a much needed nap (and it’s some snoring). I decided to give her a bath because she seemed in need of one and I was able to give it to her with minimal issues, just a lot of wiggles as she wanted all the attention possible but she didn’t seem too phased by the hose. Per Staff 6/17- Play Group Notes- Widow had good greetings and was steerable at the front. the handler touched her neck with the leash and she yelped out. in the yard she was curious but timid with low wags and was very tolerant of the other dogs. she was more nervous in the yard and gave appropriate corrections. she just seemed more uncomfortable around the other dogs. Behavior Eval by volunteer 6/16/25: Kennel Presence: She was very skittish for leashing at first. Every time I tried, she would play bow and start to jump around. Finally threw her some treats and when she was eating them I tossed a big lasso around her neck and she hopped right out of the kennel. Leash: She’s zigzags quite a bit while walking so just need some training with how to walk with her handler. At one point, I put some pressure on the leash and she yelped so it doesn’t seem like she likes pressure on her neck. Handling: Super affectionate girl who just wants to be touching you!! She was in my lap and jumping up on me for affection. Sometimes doesn’t realize how big she is when showing love to her handler. She was skittish outside with sudden movements or noises. When I went to toss a toy, she cowered backwards but leaned on me for comfort afterwards. Really affectionate girl!! Color: Made her blue ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in.
