My story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please meet Tessa!  Tessa is a local dog whose owners could no longer care for her the way they wanted and knew she needed.  Tessa is 4 years old and weighs 16 pounds.  She is pretty mix of Maltese and Shih Tzu!  Tessa is a small lap dog who loves people and gets excited when it’s time to cuddle. She enjoys sitting on the couch with her person and is all for binge-watching movies all day long! Tessa has always been an only dog but now lives with a variety of dogs in her foster home, and she is adapting well. While she hasn’t started any real play yet, we believe that will change with time. In the meantime, she is very content chewing on her toys and entertaining herself.   Tessa loves to be outside, especially when the weather is nice. She enjoys lounging outdoors and soaking up the sunshine. She is currently learning to navigate stairs on her own; she can do it if placed there, but she hasn't quite figured it out independently yet. Tessa is leash trained but tends to pull because she gets excited about going for walks. She is also good in the car!   In her foster home, Tessa lives with cats and doesn’t seem to mind them at all. While she was potty pad trained in her last home, we are working on transitioning her to go outside. With lots of patience and positive reinforcement, she is making great progress. Please expect some additional training and a learning curve in her new home.   Tessa loves to be petted and brushed and behaves well during grooming sessions. She is also crate trained! She has been around children and does fine, although she can get excited and might jump on them. Tessa is a smart little dog who is very food motivated.   Please keep in mind that Tessa will require regular grooming. We require that a martingale collar be used at the time of adoption. If you do not have a martingale collar, you can purchase one from Pixie Mamas for an additional $10. This requirement is in place to ensure the dog's safety and security. Tessa is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. Additional doses of Braveto will be sent with her.  Her adoption fee is $475.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 6, 2025, 9:24 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Tessa, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
