My story

What my friends at ACC say about me:My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.Dodge is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She is apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, she appears wary of human contact. It is difficult to predict if she will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.A volunteer writes: My friend Dodge has spent a lot of time trying to make herself small, but finding your way isn't always easy. Dodge came to us from a home with many other cats and learning how to make sense of the Care Center admittedly took her some time and is something she's still working on. She'd lower her head in hopes I'd miss those perfectly pointy ears popping out as she crouched behind her bed in her efforts to hide from the pets, treats, and friendship I'd been trying to share. But Dodge, like everyone, is multifaceted and dynamic. She's playful and engaging, just on her own terms. I saw her bouncing around from the corner of my eye and very delicately peeked in. Dodge was tossing and catching her toys with puffed happy cheeks. Since I've been trying to be her friend since February, I thought I'd try my luck and offer a pipe cleaner feather, which was just the thing! Dodge plays like a puppy, holding on her toy and pulling as hard as she can. All she wants is to find a family who will welcome and love her for exactly who she is.
