Meet Phoenix, a new year's day puppy (born 01/01/2025), only 5-months-old and such an adorable, sweet, and shy rescue who arrived from Georgia to New York City just a week ago on Monday (06/02/2025) and is looking for a caring person to provide a loving, forever home. Phoenix was very nervous when he first arrived, but he was so gentle and well-behaved. He was so good in the bath, even got a shower rinse, and he let me clean his ears and paws, and even let me look at his li'l puppy teeth. Such a good and sweet boy! Phoenix has the walk of a lion - a powerful, slow and steady walk - and when he suddenly takes off to fetch a toy, he has a cute spring up to a pouncy run. Phoenix has the cutest howl, and is very expressive when he's hungry. He, very adorably, walks around with his nose in the air if he smells food to sniff out the source. Phoenix has a hearty appetite and loves to stay quenched - he loves water! He loves to play with his chew toys and I discovered that he is sometimes captivated by the TV or my phone screen, watching if he hears a dog or if he hears a big band playing live music. Phoenix has slept well through the night and loves naps. He'll sleep anywhere, especially if you tuck him in by caressing his head and chest, also helps if he can see you so he can feel safe. I think his favorite place is my kitchen floor, which has cool tiles where he can lay and cool off. In this short time, Phoenix has already shown what a sweet, affectionate, and loving dog he is and will make an amazing best friend and loyal companion! I imagine he will be a gentle, big, beautiful boy who will go on long walks and be very active, and also chill with you at home quietly. Personality & Characteristics: Shy but playful and loves affection. Well-behaved, friendly, curious, responsive and clever. Phoenix is happy to let my puppy have the toy and he'll scoop it up quickly when my puppy sets it down. (lol!) At only 5-months-old and despite having just over a week in his foster home, he is making improvements rapidly and responds to commands very well!My foster dog is good with: (dogs, kids, cats) Dogs. Plays and cuddles with my puppy. Has not been around cats or kids yet.My foster dog is: (crate trained, house trained, low shed) Crate trained. Phoenix is a shy and nervous puppy, he has challenges with pee pad training, but we started walks outside and Phoenix will go outside if walked often. He has a super soft, sable-like (dark brown/black with white/cream) coat that is low shed.3 Keywords for your pup: food-motivated, obedient, sweetie-pie!Energy Level (1= calm, 10= high energy): 6 = just right! : )Barker? Or Quiet Pup?: Phoenix is not a barker, but he is vocal and when he tries to communicate he has an adorable puppy howl, especially when he is hungry and wants food. I would not be surprised if he could speak and be sweetly vocal in his forever home.Walking Manners: Phoenix is very new to walks, but he is doing great! He is adjusting well to the busy, noisy city, and he likes to greet passersby. Appetite: Excellent! Phoenix has a very healthy appetite. Nom, nom.Favorite Things: food, snacks, water (Phoenix loves to stay hydrated!), chew toys (Phoenix is teething), rope toys, balls, chasing the mop/broom (lol!), and hiding in safe spaces, like under the bed or behind/under a chair.Commands/Tricks: Sit, Come, Down, Sleep, Stop, Stay (Phoenix is very responsive, especially with treats as a reward, except for sleep, he happily lays down and takes a nap without a treat. ALL adoptions require a completed application and final contract. The application can be found at WaldosRescue.org and once you are approved to adopt you will be put in touch with the foster to see if it’s a good match. We are a RESCUE not a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We are unable to contact every applicant for every dog. We will select the best applicant for each dog, based on the dogs needs. Waldos Rescue Pen is a 501c3 whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list from high kill shelters throughout the United States and Korea. ##2418878##
