My story

Name: Pearl Nicknames: Swirly Pearl, Peanut, Baby Breed: A really cute one? Best guesses are Poodle/Terrier/Maltese mixes Sex: Female Age: ~2.5 years Weight: 6 lbs. Before OMD: Found as a stray, covered in matts and with nails so long that they curled into her paw pads. Energy Level: Medium to low. She does get bursts of zoomies in the yard, but they are short lived, and she quickly returns back to cuddle mode. Descriptors: Sweet. Angelic (...sometimes). Velcro Dog. Lap dog. Protective. Fearful. What we love most: The way she dances on her hind legs, hoping to get picked up, only to go belly-up for some rubbins' instead. Her silly "I'm so happy!" twirls and spins. Her heart-melting gaze. What she loves most: Foster mom’s lap. Soft blankets. Squirrel patrol. Car rides. Cuddles and kisses for the people she trusts. Rolling in the yard ...she has a way of seeking out the least delightful smells to roll in. What makes us laugh: Her confused expression while she ponders how a squirrel got up the tall tree. Her paw version of “Miss Mary Mack” where she he lays on her back, tapping your hands with her paws. What she doesn’t love: Fast-approaching people - she becomes defensive and barks/growls at new people. However, with some patience, and after a slow-approaching low hand for her to sniff and some baby talk, she settles quickly. What she is working on: Stranger Danger. “Place” with the command of “nice!” but sometimes she breaks the “nice” command part as ankles are just too tempting. Moonlights as: Motion detector – any movement gets her focused. Basic commands: Sit. Leash manners: Ehhh. She is a bit reactive on walks when she sees people and dogs. House training. 90% there, and working on pee pad training as well. Works for #1's, but not for #2's yet. Crate trained: Yes. She will stay in the crate with no problem. Dogs: So far, so good. Lives in foster with a large dog. They are fine together, and do not interact much.... unless she starts humping...and he gets annoyed...and he subsequently leaves the room as he has no time for that crap. She may also be okay living with another tolerant small dog, but she is perfectly happy with just her humans as long as she can live on your lap. Kids: No. Abit too scary and fast-moving for her. Ideal home: Dog-savvy, low key, quiet, without a lot of chaos or constant visitors. Favorite hashtags: #Lapsarelife Pearl is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She is available to residents of IL, CT and their surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Pearl, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
