My story

Perfect is a cautious pup who shows gentle curiosity while he’s outside on walks. He stays close, pulls minimally, and explores his surroundings with soft sniffing. He walks calmly through the kennels, though he hesitated to return to his own. Once inside, he resumed eating treats and settled quietly. While Perfect allows some handling, he can be tense and evasive with touch, preferring to observe or approach on his own terms. He’s still learning to build trust and confidence in new interactions. He was easy to leash and eager to leave his kennel. Outside he was quite focused on exit searching - understandably so as it was evident he was missing his owner. After some time together he relaxed and solicited pets by sitting closely, leaning in, and placing his paw on my lap. Perfect really enjoys soft talk, booty scritches and cheese snacks. He initially showed some discomfort with petting around his face or neck, but once he felt more secure with time and a gentle approach, he was relaxed with all handling. Perfect met a young puppy, Hemire -- he was mostly disinterested in engaging due to exit searching. On our walk back inside he at times leaned against Hemire. Perfect will likely benefit from the companionship of a confident and gentle dog. Perfect follows the lead of a human or dog friend and appreciates kind encouragement. 06/05/2025 staff notes, playgroup: Perfect was fearful and tense at the gate. he had his tail tucked in the yard and was avoidant of all the dogs. he was exit searching, running circles in the yard. 06/04/2025 volunteer notes: It took some sweet talking to get Perfect out of his kennel. Once he was out he was good on leash. He didn’t play and is definitely timid and nervous. He cowers slightly when trying to pet around his head but isn’t aggressive at all. Just a scared boy of his environment and a little wary of humans. I think he’d warm up in no time. 06/03/2025 staff notes: Kennel Presentation: Nervous Nervous but soft & nonreactive. Found him laying on his kuranda bed, uneaten high-value treats all around him. Allowed me to get down onto his level and loop him while he was laying down without issue. With some coaxing, exited slowly but smoothly. Leash skills: Pulls Minimally On Leash Stayed by my side, pulled minimally, wandered tentatively, sniffing. Peed & pooped while we were out. Walked back through the kennels alright, but hesitated returning to his kennel. Had to step in with both feet and put on some leash pressure to coax him back in. Removed the leash without issue. He exit-searched for a minute after I closed the door, then started eating the treats still on his kennel floor. Handleability/Sociability: Tense/Allows some handling Evasive around touch, so didn't want to push his limits. Tentative, fidgety, distracted, and didn't give much eye contact or check in very often. Would come into my space when I was crouched (to sniff my treat pouch, e.g.) but mostly skirted away when I initiated touch on his shoulders and back.
