My story

Mara is currently at her foster home in Vancouver. Background: In December 2022, during the cold winter months, Mara was rescued from a dog meat farm in Ganghwa, Korea, as one of 51 lucky dogs. She lived at our boarding house in Korea until her departure. She’s now settling into a foster home in Vancouver, BC. Personality and Socialization: Mara was a volunteer favorite, loved for her affectionate and easy-going nature. With a medium to low energy level, she enjoys cuddling with people but never demands attention. She’s obedient, calm, and easygoing—content just being in your presence, whether she’s sitting beside you or snuggling up for warmth. One of Mara’s favorite activities is sitting in front of the heater or soaking up the sun when the weather is nice. She’s also great with other dogs, especially those who are gentle and friendly. Mara is thoughtful and respectful; if another dog needs some space, she’ll quietly sit by their side without disturbing them. She has no experience with cats or young children. Behaviors: Mara is very laid-back and calm, rarely barking. She’s easy to handle in the car, at the vet, and during baths, though she might feel a little nervous in new situations. She’s always trusting and allows her humans to guide her through it. Mara is house-trained. While she’s great on leash, she can get spooked by certain stimuli, so a bit of patience and support go a long way. Her relaxed, cuddly nature makes her a joy to be around, and she thrives in peaceful environments where she can feel safe and loved. Health and Diet: Mara is in great health and has been well taken care of. She’s up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She’s had negative parasite tests, including heartworms, and she takes monthly parasite prevention. Mara eats dry food twice a day and has shown no signs of allergies. Ideal Home: Mara is a mellow, friendly girl who would thrive in almost any home. Whether she’s the only dog, part of a family with another dog, or with someone with limited dog experience, her gentle nature makes her a good fit. She’d be a wonderful walking partner and is just as happy lounging around and relaxing with you. Mara has spent two years at the shelter, where she is loved by the staff, but shelter life can never compare to the warmth of a true forever home. Raised in such heartbreaking conditions for meat consumption, Mara deserves so much more. We want her to experience what it feels like to be a normal, happy dog, living with a family who will cherish her every day. Give her a second chance, and she will repay you with endless love and loyalty. She truly deserves to know the joy of family life – a life full of cuddles, walks, and the love she’s been waiting for.
