A long bio for a girl with a long story. Meet Bri. We love her so much and this post is hard to even put up, but we know she can’t live at the ranch forever. Bri has been with us since September of 2024. She has gotten a little chunky since being here as you can see in more recent photos . You will also notice her Christmas photos from last year . Briar who we have for a long time now called Bri, is apx 4 years old and 10.5 pounds. She came in from a terrible hoarding situation with over 30 dogs living outdoors. She had her babies under the shed there. Her sister who passed away also had a litter of babies that Bri took on as her own. Bri came to the rescue feeding 9 little newborns, she was feral and terrified but quickly calmed down here and was grateful for her safe place with clean bedding and food however would not let us touch her or get anywhere near her. Day by day Bri learned to trust us. All of her babies grew healthy, weaned, and were adopted , and a few days before Christmas we had Bri spayed so she would move on to the next best chapter of her life. Her real family. Bri also has a huge hernia that was supposed to be fixed. She had some complications during spay so the vet just did her spay and woke her up, unable to repair the large hernia. Bri looked very bad, she was not doing well, bleeding a little, really having a hard time with recovery. Then on Christmas day when we went out to the kennels, Bri had bled a lot. She was pale and unable to walk . We got her to the vets office and she had to stay being hospitalized for a week while they got the bleeding to stop. Her platelets were very low and she was anemic. Fast-forward several months and several tests later, Bri is no longer Anemic, it has taken her a long time to get her platelets back up to a somewhat normal level, still being mildly low. We have had a lot of testing done on her, including a blood smear sent out to a lab, extensive blood work, imaging. No one can conclusively find anything wrong with her. So our veterinarian has just stated that she has a bleeding disorder. She is no longer on any medication. Bri is happy and healthy and acts like a normal dog. She LOVES other dogs but it still takes her a bit to get used to new people. She is never ever aggressive. The other thing that happened during this time, is Bri was sent to a foster home for her healing process , she was not even there for 45 minutes and she dug under their fence and ran away, it took 2 1/2 hours to get her. We brought her back to the ranch and she has been here ever since. I am very sure Bri thinks this is her home. She loves it here. She loves us. But that is only because this is the best life Bri has ever known, and the only love and attention she has ever known. We know she deserves a house, a family, a human bed to sleep in, a couch to play, pup cups to get in the drive through, Christmas trees and thanksgiving dinner. She more than deserves all that because Bri has been through A LOT! We are looking for a special home for Bri. We will treat this adoption like you are adopting a human child. The ladies and I at the rescue have cared for and loved this dog for ten months, she is our family. You must be patient, kind and loving, have experience with rescue dogs. No small toddlers but Bri will be fine with well mannered older kids. A fenced yard that is like Fort Knox that she absolutely cannot get out of. Someone willing to leash train her with time, and socialize her. She will NEVER be able to have another surgery and will not be able to get her umbilical hernia repaired. We can not guarantee Bri will never ever have another issue. She can live another 12 years , or 2. We kept her here for a long time to make sure that she was doing well and had no ongoing issues, and she does not. For the last five months, Bri has been a happy, healthy, very playful, loving dog. She does not have a mean bine in her body. She is super silly. This will be a hard adoption for us with a lot of tears and check ins 🙂 so be prepared to be part of our TXCR family. She needs a special human , and we will do whatever we have to to be sure she gets her happily ever after. Www.texaschihuahua.org
