Loco ACCT-A-221790 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Loco must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, OR ADOPTER by WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18TH at 10AM. Should Loco's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Loco’s owner was taken to the hospital on May 31st and a concerned neighbor kept him safe until we arrived. From day one, Loco has shown himself to be a happy, social boy who enjoys people and other dogs. He’s very playful and affectionate, and he’ll gladly bring toys right to your lap for a game of tug or fetch. Loco has developed a habit of biting at the leash during transitions in and out of the kennel, especially when he’s excited or overstimulated, but this behavior has proven manageable with cheese, meatballs, toys, or redirection through walking. Outside the kennel, Loco relaxes and shows off his fun-loving, friendly nature. He’s made friends in playgroup and can often be seen wiggling with joy. Loco would thrive with someone who understands how to help high-energy dogs settle, and who can continue supporting him as he decompresses. He would do best in a home where any children are over the age of 13. Due to his length of stay, Loco is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter. VIDEOS: Loco in the play yard: https://youtube.com/shorts/1sByWyn7yY4?feature=share Playgroup 6/1: Shadow Baby, Bear, Ice Storm, Humphrey, Loco: https://youtu.be/yEOHqdBrfws BEHAVIOR: Per staff 6/12: Super sweet, leash bites and wants to tug on it but not too bad, needed help getting him back in. Per volunteer 6/9: Loco is a playful and happy boy. He loves to play tug and he thinks his leash is a rope toy, so he is best suited to a harness. He doesn’t pull too much on leash. In addition to ropes Loco also loves balls! He will play fetch with lots of encouragement from you. Sometimes Loco even drops the ball on his own, although a treat/trade is best. Loco loves cheese! He’s a very friendly boy who loves to receive pets. He brings his toys to your lap while wiggling his whole lower half.. Per volunteer 6/8: After reviewing his walk notes, I asked two gold volunteers that were walking together to take him out, I observed leash, biting as soon as he came out of the kennel. He was easily redirected with meat, balls and cheese, but not for the toy or dry treats. Once outside, they said that he did not leash bite at all, he went pee and poop right away and would look at the leash when he would get excited but was easily redirected with continued walking and moving away. Upon returning to the kennel, he began to bulk and leash bite again, was able to be lured into the kennel with cheese. Blue. Per staff 6/7: Leash biting too much to get out. Per staff 6/6: Did super great, no leash biting coming in. Per staff 6/5: Leash biting. Took 2 handlers to come in. Per staff 6/2: Leash biting. Per staff 6/1, playgroup: Loose, wiggly at the gate. Very steerable with shake can. Gave greetings, some attempts at play, slight attempts to mount around Ice Storm but didn't fixate. Per staff 5/31: Dog appears very social and has allowed most people to handle him at location. Dog will initially try to bite leash, but it’s easily redirected. MEDICAL: On 6/3, Loco was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. He tested negative for pneumovirus and is scheduled on doxycycline until 6/16. During his intake exam on 6/1, Loco appeared to be in good health. His ears and coat were clean and his teeth were white, with one incisor having a chip in it. – Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
