My story

Microchipped, DOB August 5, 2022 Mike is a sleek and majestic boy, with a mostly black coat except for his white bow tie and his back white sock! Mike’s best friend is Marcus, who is his favourite playmate. When you see one of them you know the other is nearby. Once Mike opens up to you, he not only loves pets, but is growing to love to play! Although it has taken time for Mike and Marcus to open up and play with their humans, you can often hear them playing with toys and one another at night. They loves balls, springs, mice… and pretty much any toy you give them! The two have grown to love wand toys too, and enjoy their daily play time with their humans. History: Mike and Marcus both came from a hoarding situation, and were rescued as a bonded pair. When they first entered their foster parents’ home, they were very scared and required socialization, but found comfort in cuddling with each other. While Marcus came out of his shell relatively quickly, Mike required more patience. Mike was scared and liked to hide, and at first would hiss in fear and occasionally swat. He did not let his foster parents pet him. Mike’s foster parents have been working on socializing him. Mike came out of his shell with time, coming out to say hi on his own terms. Mike is very food motivated, and with the use of lots of treats and patience, Mike now not only loves to be petted, but greets his foster parents at the door every day! The right fit: These boys will require some patience to warm up to their forever home, but with treats, toys, and love they will grow to demand lots of attention from their family! Their interactions with strangers in their current foster family indicates that the boys will likely warm up to their forever home much more quickly than they did with their foster family, now that they are loving human attention! The two boys will need to be in a dedicated room for a period of time until they are comfortable with their new home. The room should have lots of accessible hiding spots, so that the boys can feel comfort in hiding while also staying visible to their humans. Mike and Marcus’s foster parents will provide the forever home with socialization tips and what worked for them! It will be important for their forever home to not rush in letting them acclimatize and to develop a daily routine. Their new family will need to read their cues for when they are comfortable to interact. But with lots of patience, their forever home is sure to fall in love with these two sweethearts. Special note from the foster family: Mike is an extremely special boy, who has thrived with lots of love. Although he may have been scared at first, he becomes braver every day, maybe even braver than his best friend Marcus! Mike does require a lot of patience, but the first time he purrs in front of you is the best feeling in the world, and you can feel his love and that he feels safe with you. He is now affectionate with his foster family, and a once very nervous boy has become a sweetie. Thank you for giving two best friends a loving home together! Our adoption fee for an adult bonded pair is $175 per cat, versus our standard fee of $225 per adult cat.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mike, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
