My story

Friday is a great example of why people love the Chihuahua / Dachshund mix (Chiweenie) This breed combo is the opinion of New Mexico veterinarians. Farfel's doesn't do DNA testing and therefore can't swear to this mix. All we know for certain is that this sweet as can be guy is irresistible! What happens when you cross the tiny and spunky Chihuahua with the bold, determined and silly / sweet Dachshund? You get the adorable and lively Chiweenie! A Chiweenie is a small designer dog breed resulting from the Chihuahua & Dachshund Mix. These dogs are known for their compact size, playful nature, and affectionate personalities. The mix of the super-cuddly and opinionated Chihuahua with the loyal, clever and playful Dachshund results in a dog with a big-dog attitude in a tiny package! Chiweenies are loved for their adaptability and make fantastic companions for singles, couples, and families alike. Chiweenies combine the best of both worlds—spunk, sass and unwavering love and loyalty. Friday's greatest joy (once comfortable in his environment) is being around his humans. Chiweenies are well known to be excellent with older children. They do have energy so wouldn't be appropriate for very young kids or those who are inactive. Outdoor activities such as hiking, running or backyard play would be perfect for Friday and his family. At between 5 and 6 years old Friday is such a great age..young enough to have many, many active and healthy years ahead and old enough to be beyond babyish behaviors. At just about 12 lbs, sweet Friday is a great smaller size to enable him to accompany his family everywhere a sweet, tiny dog is welcome. Friday, once comfortable in his surroundings, is a very positive spirit with a wagging helicopter tail..always curious to learn about his world. He is a loyal and loving guy who bonds hard and falls in love easily with those that are kind and loving to him. Friday has a spirit about him that caught the attention of a compassionate Texas rescuer. She saved him from euthanasia at a scary New Mexico shelter due to lack of space, and fell in love with his sweetness and kind nature. She knew that Friday would be a natural companion for an active, dog-crazy Colorado family. Friday's love of spending time with his rescuer is a joy to watch. He's filled with nothing but sweetness and good-will, and shares it with those he loves 1000%. Together with his rescuer, Friday has been enjoying backyard play, learning about leash skills, and at day's end snuggling close on the couch to enjoy a movie and family time. Farfel's Rescue feels that Friday would be a wonderful best friend for active dog-crazy retirees or a younger family that enjoys including a fuzzy guy in their activities. Friday would be overjoyed with the time spent and togetherness..therefore becoming a loyal best friend and a very important member of the family. Friday will also thrive with a younger family with dog-loving older kids who enjoy fun activities with their dog. They would be able to participate in positive reinforcement group training classes to teach Friday the skills to accompany his family out in the community with excellent behavior. Farfel's will provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force free trainers in your area. Friday can be relied on, once confident in his surroundings, to share his love and best behavior with his humans. He is a devoted best friend who wants nothing more than to share time, play and learning new skills with a kind and committed family. We feel that a full-time workday for his family won't work for Friday. He thrives on family-time and being at home while his people work full-time outside of the home isn't in the best interest of this devoted companion.. Friday will be in-sync with a family that includes him in dog-friendly adventures like backyard fun, exploring the Colorado mountains or window shopping on Pearl Street to learn urban skills. A walk around the neighborhood socializing with neighbors would be an excellent way for this people-friendly pup to fine-tune his social as well as leash skills. Friday has a stunning tri-colored coat that that is currently shelter-sad. This little guy will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and great nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement is recommended for general longevity and coat care). With this regimen his coat will always be cottony-soft and shining with excellent health. Friday has been fully vetted and vaccinated to be in line with Farfel's commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. We've requested that he be neutered prior to transport but aren't optimistic that that will occur. If it doesn't, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Friday's neuter / microchip if one of our rescue vets is used. Friday will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 6/4/2025. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet, silly and absolutely wonderful best friend. Adoption apps can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-res. cue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Friday please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Friday, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
