My story

Lightning:We are looking for an indoor/outdoor placement for Lightening, with a safe outdoor situation. Lightning is a curious, active and confident girl with beautiful markings. She could be a great adventure cat, and showed interest in the outdoors in her previous home. She will do best in a quiet setting. An abdominal scar was seen upon examination, and could be consistent with a spay surgery but we cannot confirm the spay from the presence of a scar alone. Her adopter should watch for signs of heat cycles like changes in personality, blood spotting, etc and if noticed, her adopter should contact the adoption center. If she is determined to be intact, the adoption center will perform an exploratory surgery and spay surgery if needed at no additional cost to the adopter. Lightning may put herself in situations in which she cannot regulate her own overstimulation, which may look like getting close and asking for pets by intensely/furiously weaving through your legs, rubbing against hands, trying to put their face in your face, etc., and then quickly swatting, hissing, or using her mouth. She may also correctively overstimulate, which might look like moving away or using her body language to communicate that she needs a break from interacting. It will be the job of her adopter to recognize those changes in behavior or body language, and respond by giving her some space, or leaving her with an activity she can engage with on her own like a puzzle feeder or a new toy. The shelter offers suggestions that will be addressed with potential adopters, such as consent tests, play `therapy`, rewards for calm behavior, and clicker training.- She would benefit from safe outdoor outlets, depending on the environment. Consider exploring a catio, cat tent, or walking on a harness once she is more comfortable being handled.COMPATIBILITY:Dogs: No thank you. Lightning lived with a dog in her previous home and they did not get along.Cats: No thank you. Lightning was bullied by cats in her previous home and would like to be the solo feline in the home.Kids: Possibly! Older kids who are able to understand cat body language, allow Lightning to opt in/out of interactions, and participate in a specific management plan. If you think Lightning could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday - S

If you have any questions or would like to adopt LIGHTNING, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
