At 6 years old and just 7 pounds, she’s a shy girl who needs a little time and patience to feel safe in new environments. But once she trusts you, her gentle, affectionate nature shines through.Gemma is the kind of dog who will quietly observe from the sidelines until she’s sure it’s safe to join in. But when she does, you’ll see a sweet and loving companion who enjoys soft pets and calm companionship. She’s not one for the spotlight, but she’s the perfect little shadow for someone who understands that great love can grow slowly and beautifully.She’d do best in a quieter home where she can continue to build confidence at her own pace. A gentle routine, lots of love, and maybe a kind canine friend could help Gemma continue to blossom into her best self.*******Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with time and a gentle approach, most of these dogs adapt quickly.
