My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, May 31st from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $750 Meet Harlow – A Spunky, Scruffy Sweetheart Ready to Light Up Your Life! Age: 10–12 months old Breed: Westie–Cairn Terrier Mix Weight: 11 lbs Coat: Low-shedding scruff for max cuteness, minimal lint rolling Rescued from: The shelter – now shopping for her forever family If you’ve ever wished for a dog that’s equal parts cuddlebug, party crasher, and dance partner—meet Harlow. This pint-sized pup with big personality energy is what happens when terrier charm meets social butterfly. With her scruffy good looks and bouncy little trot, Harlow turns heads and steals hearts wherever she goes. A Day in the Life of Harlow: Harlow wakes up with a wagging tail and big plans. After her morning potty break (promptly at 7 AM), she might want a quick snuggle snooze or be ready to chase the day. Breakfast is at 8, and then it's all about playtime, walks, or charming everyone in the house. She loves to hang wherever her humans are—always ready to lend a paw or steal a belly rub. Evenings are filled with more play, dinner at 5 PM, and a nice walk before curling up in her crate for the night. She sleeps like a dream (although she’s not-so-secretly hoping for an upgrade to the big bed someday). Personality: Smart, Social, and So Much Fun Harlow is full of joy, curiosity, and affection. She's got that signature terrier spunk, and she loves everyone she meets—dogs, people, you name it. She even once crashed an adoption event in her foster's backyard just to say hi to all the guests. She’s playful and energetic but can settle in for a cuddle session just as easily. She’s respectful of senior dogs, playful with puppies, and already trying to perfect her game of fetch (we’re still working on “drop it”). Her enthusiasm occasionally includes some gentle mouthiness—she's still young and learning! She’s been a perfect little shadow from day one—following her foster around the house and asking for love with her big, expressive eyes and signature 'happy dance' on her hind legs. Dog Friend? Yes, Please! Harlow loves other dogs and would thrive in a home with a playful pup who can match her energy. She’s respectful with dogs of all sizes and learns quickly from her canine companions. No cats in the foster home, but based on her vibe, she’d likely treat them as potential playmates—then move on once they make their boundaries known. Leash & Potty Status: Progress in Process Harlow is fantastic on leash—she checks in, doesn’t pull, and will politely ask for pets from strangers if they make eye contact. A+ walking buddy material! She knows she’s supposed to go outside to potty, but she’s still learning to hold it and signal. With consistency and routine, she’ll get there—she’s smart and eager to please. She’s also crate-trained and sleeps soundly through the night. Ideal Home: Harlow would thrive in: A home with another playful dog (big bonus!) An active household where she gets plenty of walks, games, and interaction A family that can commit to her continued training (and give lots of praise when she nails it) Given her playful mouthiness and energy, older kids or dog-savvy families would be best. Why You’ll Love Her: She dances on her hind legs when she’s excited She once growled at her own reflection (she’s since made peace with the 'other dog') She’s smart, sweet, and wants nothing more than to love and be loved She’s got the terrier tenacity wrapped in a tiny, huggable package Harlow is a bright light of personality, ready to make every walk more fun, every nap cozier, and every day a little more joyful. Ready to meet the happiest scruff nugget around? Apply to adopt Harlow today!June 2, 2025, 10:56 pm
