My story

Hiya! My name is PEQUI, and here is some info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed: Schnauzer Mix Age: 5 years Gender: Female Weight: 14 lbs (6.4kg)  Height: 43 cm (paws to top of my head) Length: 55 cm (head to butt) Current Location: MEXICO CITY SPECIAL NOTE: I am blind! RESCUE STORY - Hi! My name is Pequi. I was found in a garbage dump in Mexico City, wrapped in a blanket and crying from the pain in my eyes. I didn’t know if anyone would come—but someone heard me and brought me to a kind woman, who took me to the vet. The doctors tried to save my sight, but it was too late. I had severe glaucoma, and the pain was excruciating. I now live in the shelter, where I am safe and cared for. Despite all I’ve been through, I don’t hold onto any fear or resentment. I wag my tail every time I hear a kind voice and give hugs when I am picked up. I love human company and can’t wait to have a family of my own to snuggle with every day! TEMPERAMENT - I’m a gentle soul. Even after everything, I haven’t lost my trust. I greet kind voices with tail wags and melt into arms when someone picks me up. I am told that I am an incredibly sweet and smart dog. Despite being blind, I remember to always go potty outside. I am looking for a family who will see me for the warrior that I am and who will love me forever! ENERGY LEVEL - Low - I have a calm, quiet energy. I like short walks and soft spaces to rest. I'm not in a rush—just steady, patient, and ready for a peaceful life! Here I am enjoying some pets: Video GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Unknown. Dogs –  Yes. Here I am with dogs: Video 1 Video 2 Video 3 Cats – Unknown.  PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – Work in progress. I enjoy slow, short walks. I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! Here I am out for a walk! Video House trained – Work in progress. I do very well with going potty outside at the shelter! Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :) Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.  HEALTH NOTES: I do not have any residual pain from my glaucoma. Other than being blind, I have been given a clean bill of health! I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada. NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $672.00 CAD including tax ($600.00 + 5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process. The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.  WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.  ##2411466##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt PEQUI, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
