Slinky ACCT-A-220997 is a goofy, affectionate young pup who’s shown a ton of potential in the right environment. While he’s currently listed as rescue only due to concerning behavior in certain situations, his recent interactions with volunteers tell a more hopeful story. Slinky greets volunteers calmly and is easy to leash. Though his hackles were initially raised walking through the kennels, he walked nicely on leash and showed a healthy curiosity once outside. His tail was held high, and he was eager to explore. In the volunteer office, Slinky truly came out of his shell. His body relaxed, and he began actively seeking attention. He welcomed full-body pets, playfully pranced around, and proudly carried a toy — even letting volunteers pet him while holding it. He sat politely for toys and greeted multiple new people with a wiggly body and tail wags. Slinky is a young dog with a bright spark, but he needs a rescue who can provide a calm, structured environment and advocate for his comfort and safety. With time, patience, and support, Slinky has all the ingredients to become a loyal, loving pal! I had a staff member get him from the kennel to test how he would react to a new, male presenting person in the kennel (due to previous issues leaving the kennel). The staff member said Slinky was loose/wiggly and easy to retrieve. Outside, Slinky continued to mostly loose leash walk. His body is a bit stiff and his tail very high. Slinky allowed handling all over and had no issue with me trying on different size collars for him to go to playgroup. He greeted other volunteers and staff while awaiting his entrance. In playgroup, Slinky mostly sniffed other dogs. He had stiff body language but seemed interested in exploring the other dogs. He returned to his kennel with no issue! 05/23/2025 staff notes: Accompanied a volunteer as she took him out of his crate. He was lying down when approached but immediately got up to greet us at the door. He was easy to leash. While walking through the kennels, his hackles were initially raised, but he walked nicely on leash. His tail was held high as we exited the building, and he was eager to explore, urinating as soon as we got outside. Once in the office, his body language noticeably relaxed. He began seeking out attention, welcomed full-body petting, and pranced playfully around the room. He quickly claimed a toy, proudly carrying it around and allowing petting even while holding it in his mouth. A volunteer engaged him in play, and he showed himself to be a vocal player. He sat politely for toys, with a loose, wiggly body and a happily wagging tail. Several volunteers came into the office, and he greeted each one warmly, accepting pets from everyone. Would make gold due to the behaviors observed, but making blue to err on the side of caution due to earlier notes. 05/23/2025 staff notes: Went to get Slinky (fka Pen Head) from his crate and he was sleeping in the back in a all. i called him forward and he had soft eyes and a wagging tail. i opened the kennel door slightly but he saw some children as he peaked his head out and began lip puffing and low growling. i went to give him some comfort and he growled at me once i pet him. we were not out of the area and he continued growling, not sure what it was at anymore so i put him back in. 05/24/2025 staff notes: Did really well during check in today. he didnt show any signs of aggression and maintained pretty chill during the whole process. a muzzle was used a precaution but he didnt seem to be to upset with having to get his vaccines or physical. 05/24/2025 staff notes: Got Slinky on leash and handed him off to a volunteer taking him to playgroup. No issues whatsoever. Found him curled up in his crate. He rose and presented himself at the front, stretched, and allowed me to loop him with tip-taps and mid-level wags. Easy exit. Pranced through Adoptions, pleased to be out.
