It’s been such a delight to watch Callie (formerly Kirby) blossom since her arrival in Colorado! This gentle, sweet, sensitive girl arrived already potty trained and sleeping quietly through the night in her kennel. This young lady (shelter said 3 years, we think more like 1-2) is the perfect size, about 30 pounds. She's big enough for adventure and small enough for lap snuggles. She is easy to walk on a leash and will be a great hiking buddy. Callie has excellent house manners and is settled and respectful indoors and in the car. She loves being outside. She also loves treats, belly rubs, tagging along to sports practice, snuggling, and walks. She’s friendly and interested in greeting other dogs and people, though she is a cautious dog overall. She's been playing with her foster K9 sisters, but it took several days to be comfortable as they're much bigger than she is. She needs a family who will continue to calmly, steadily, and positively provide socializing and new opportunities, as it seems lots of Colorado K9 life is new to her: clipping into a leash, brushing and grooming, wearing a collar, entering her kennel, and getting into the car. She’s been living with teens and college students, whom she loves, and has seen but not yet had a lot of interaction with younger children. We haven’t seen her around cats. She's very interested in chasing bunnies and birds. Is she a spaniel? An Aussie? A million-dollar, designer mini-Bernese? Whatever her breed, she's gorgeous with a medium tri-color coat that will need brushing and maybe some grooming. Callie might have the heart of an explorer, and so will need a secure yard with a tall fence. She has shown some interest in checking gates, in looking for spots where she might get over the fence, and considers darting through open doors - though this behavior may also be a stress response to all the changes she's had in the last few weeks. A household with young kids who may leave gates open or dawdle in the doorway may not be the right fit. Callie is already responding to her name and learning to sit. She loves treats, so learning more commands should be a snap. This young dog is such a catch! Put in an application today at eapl.com Her adoption fee is $375 May 22, 2025, 9:32 am
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Callie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
