My story

After a rocky start, Sparky is so ready for his happy ending, and maybe, just maybe, you're the one to give it to him.   Sparky is 5 years old and just 20lbs, he is the definition of a homebody. Snuggled up next to you on the couch, belly up for rubs, while you binge-watch cooking shows or unwind with your favorite series is his perfect day too. He’s mellow, affectionate, and an absolute expert in the fine art of napping.   After being surrendered by the family he grew up with, he was understandably shaken (where he lived with young kids). While his next home wasn’t the right fit, Sparky didn’t give up. With the support of a fantastic trainer (@ace_pets_services), he’s made amazing progress, especially with his leash reactivity, and continues to improve every single day.   Sparky’s Favorite Things: Cuddles & belly rubs Watching you cook (he’s a five-star sous-chef) Treats, praise, and routine Calm, cozy environments   What Sparky’s Great At: House-trained and crate-trained (he sleeps soundly in his crate at night) Knows the “No” command Loves structure and consistent routines Incredible potential with the right guidance   What He’s Working On: Leash reactivity to dogs and new people (but improving with training) Calm greetings with visitors Desensitization with tools like the pet corrector and positive reinforcement   Who Sparky’s Looking For: A quiet home with a yard, where he won’t have to constantly meet new people or dogs. Or with a patient, consistent owner (or couple) who’s willing to continue his training. He’s shown he can make great progress, he just needs someone to believe in him.   While generally calm around children, Sparky may react similarly to how he does with adults at times, so respectful, dog-savvy older kids or an adult-only home might be best. He’s reactive around other dogs on walks but continues to improve with consistent training and redirection, and is the absolute SWEETEST inside.    Despite the ups and downs, Sparky hasn’t lost his gentle spirit. With the right home, there’s no doubt he’ll blossom into the loyal, loving companion you’ve been dreaming of. Please apply to adopt him at rescuecity.nyc/adopt ##2149013##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sparky, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
