My story

MEET MELLIE! This very special soul is named Mellie (shelter name Meliodas). Mellie is estimated to be between 8-10 years old and joined us from Philly's animal control shelter where she had been brought in as a stray and subsequently timestamped for euthanasia due to the shelter being full and her medical needs. Even in the stressful shelter-setting, Mellie showed nothing but gentle, friendly energy which has continued throughout her rescue and recovery! Mellie is a big, wrinkly sweetheart, weighing about 75 lbs — much of that in her adorably stocky head and neck rolls. Despite her size, she’s incredibly soft-natured and has a magnetic presence that draws both people and other animals to her. She’s attended rescue events and happily mingled with everyone: adults, kids, large and small dogs alike, always greeting each new friend with a wag and a snort of joy. In her foster home, she lives peacefully with two other dogs (one who is tiny and blind!), a cat, and even a playful kitten. She hasn’t met a soul she doesn’t like and we haven't met any that don't love her! Mellie is the full package. She’s quiet, rarely barks, and has impeccable house manners. She hasn't had a single accident since leaving the shelter. She loves strolls around the block (that's about as far as she's willing to go), relaxing in the sunshine, and cozying up for attention. She'll even rest her noggin in your lap and snort with joy. She still gets the occasional zoomy in the yard but is an otherwise low/medium-energy girl. Health-wise, Mellie has received full veterinary catchup since joining the rescue. She came with some lumps and bumps, including mammary tumors, but we’re thrilled to share that all were benign and the tumors were successfully removed. She's now spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for her forever home! So if you're looking for a calm, loving companion with a heart as big as her head, Mellie might just be your perfect match. Mellie is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. Interested in adopting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt MELLIE, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
