My story

Brigney ACCT-A-220730 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Brigney must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, EXPERIENCED FOSTER, or ADOPTER by THURSDAY, JUNE 12TH at 10AM. Should Brigney's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Brigney was brought into the shelter on May 20th after being found running loose on the property early in the morning. This sweet, older girl has shown herself to be a mellow and sensitive soul. Though initially very shut down, she’s responded to soft voices and slow, kind handling. Volunteers and staff have observed her gradually warming up, offering low tail wags, and leaning in for affection once she feels safe. Brigney walks well on leash, is easy to handle, and has shown no signs of aggression—even when uncomfortable. While she has little interest in toys or play, her quiet companionship makes her a lovely match for a calm home where she can decompress at her own pace. Due to her length of stay, Brigney is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, experienced foster, or adopter. VIDEOS: Brigney getting pets: https://youtube.com/shorts/HWr_J-GYeN0?si=m1wb4xIm13k6qNOW Playgroup 6/7: Ronny, Athena, Harry, Angel, Brigney https://youtu.be/ULkupnLO3H8 Playgroup 6/7: Brigney, Ronny, Harry https://youtu.be/oBsulfKOsZY BEHAVIOR: Per volunteer 5/25: I approached Brigney's kennel and she was laying on her bed. When I showed her my leash she got up slowly. She then came right out of her kennel. I took her into one of the runs and she sniffed around. I could tell she wasn’t feeling her best. She also appeared a little wobbly so I put in a vet slip to have her checked out. She allowed pets and just looked around. She is a sweet older gal who just needs a comfy bed to live out her golden years. I had no issues returning her to her kennel. Brigney getting pets: https://youtube.com/shorts/HWr_J-GYeN0?si=m1wb4xIm13k6qNOW Per volunteer 5/21/2025: Kennel Presentation: Brigney was on her bed in her kennel when I approached. I opened the kennel door and she sat up patiently waiting to be leashed. I lassoed her over the head and once she was leashed she hopped right out of her kennel. Leash: minimal pulling Handling: Brigney walked slowly through the kennels with minimal pulling all the way until we got to the adoption lobby where we paused. She took a few minutes to coax but we were able to get into the adoptions room where I did her eval. She likes a slow approach and allowed all over handling although did lip lick when she was uncomfortable. We spent some time together and by the end she gave me low tail wags. Walking back into the kennels she does walk slower and does need a bit of coaxing through the kennels. Once at her kennel I did have to lift her in the kennel. Play: no interest Toys: no interest Color: blue Per staff 5/21, playgroup: Nervous, minimal interest, minimal steering, avoidant, fearful, hiding by bench, exit searching. Per staff 5/20: She seemed very sweet but shut down. She was able to be fully checked in without any signs of aggression. Just had to go slow and use soft tones and she warmed up to us by the end and even gave us a low tail wag. Per staff 5/20: Friendly but very scared. MEDICAL: Per staff 6/6 AM: Mentation: BAR Appetite: Normal Respiratory Rate: unable to obtain, was barking and hacking Effort: some Medication Administration: Ate in meatball. Per staff 6/5 PM: Mentation: QAR Appetite: Normal Respiratory Rate: 18 Effort: Normal, hacking Medication Administration: Ate in cheese Per staff 6/4 PM: Mentation: BAR Appetite: Normal Respiratory Rate: 32 Effort: Normal Medication Administration: Ate in cheese Per staff 6/4 AM: Mentation: QAR Appetite: Normal Respiratory Rate:25 Effort: Normal Medication Administration: Gave wet food was real wobbly when staying up Per staff 6/3 PM: Mentation: BAR Appetite: Normal Respiratory Rate: 24 Effort: Slight Medication Administration: Ate in cheese Per staff 6/3: Mentation: QAR Appetite: Normal Respiratory Rate:26 Effort:moderate Medical Administration: Gave a mix of cream cheese and wet food. Patient ate entire meatball Per staff 6/2: Mentation-Q.A.R Appetite- ate meatball (RR) 40 Effort-normal Medication Administration: Eat meds Per staff 6/3: Mentation: QAR Appetite: Normal Respiratory Rate:26 Effort: moderate Medical Administration: Gave a mix of cream cheese and wet food. Patient ate entire meatball Per staff 5/30: Walking into ISO, Brigney immediately popped her head up, RR was 16 with mild effort. Cheek puffing was present and mod mucoid d/c from L nostril. Pt didn't eat dry food at dinner, asked ACA's to offer wet food when they go in there at end of night. I moved water bucket closer to her to encourage her to drink, she is somewhat dehydrated. Pt never got up off bed so not the best auscultation situation but seems to be increased BV sounds on lower R side of chest. Placing on vet check for tmrw On 5/26, Brigney was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on doxycycline. She tested negative for pneumovirus. On 5/28, she had bilateral mucoid nasal discharge, referred upper respiratory sound and congestion, cheek puffing, and was coughing throughout the exam. She had clear lung sounds bilaterally. Her pulse ox was 87-91% and there was a concern of progression to pneumonia. She was given subcutaneous fluids and prescribed enrofloxacin and cough tabs in addition to the doxycycline. Her appetite, energy, and respirations were being monitored. She tested positive for pneumovirus, but retested negative on 6/6. During her intake exam on 5/20, Brigney weighed 45.2 pounds and appeared to be in good health. She had slight tartar on her back molars, an underbite, and was shedding with dander. She was found to be previously altered. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly’s Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.
